Hi All,
I've been keeping up with this Piedmont thread to see how things are shaping up and am getting to the point where I am really considering applying. My main concern is QOL (commutability, schedules, etc.)
I am not new to the regionals and am a current Part 135 captain at one of the larger 135 operators that most of you have heard of. However, I do miss the 121 world. I think most of my questions pertain to the junior EMB145 folks flying out of PHL. I will try to keep it short and sweet...
Questions:
1) Junior Manning? Do you guys JM and how often does it happen?
2) Are the 11 days off per month a "hard" number?
3) It has been asked before, but anyone care to share a typical schedule?
4) Commutability; I live in PVD, 6 flights a day between here and PHL and most flights are not full from what I have seen. After a couple of months would I be able to come in the morning of Day 1 and go home the evening of Day 4?
5) What are the single folks paying towards medical insurance?
6) Haven't seen much regarding PDT crashpads in PHL; are they even necessary?
7) What is a typical paycheck looking like these days (I have a mortgage and I'm single (no roommates) so the bills are all up to me.
About me:
5900 hrs. TT
2900 hrs. 121 Experience (currently flying in the 135 world)
Saab 340 & ERJ170/190 Type Ratings
Master's Degree
US Navy Veteran
I have had my apps in with a couple of the legacies/majors for a year and a half and update monthly but, like so many, have not gotten that magic phone call. Also, like so many of you, I like the idea of a legitimate flow-through to a mainline carrier....at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm really serious about my next step and would like to make the most informed decision possible. I look forward to your replies!
- Joey
P.S.
I had the pleasure of sharing a crew room with a lot of PDT folks in LGA about 9 years ago; good group of guys and gals. I'm sure most have moved on. I hope it's still the same atmosphere over there tho....

Questions:
1) Junior Manning? Do you guys JM and how often does it happen? We do, up to 4 times a year. You cannot be junior manned if you are at min days off, however
2) Are the 11 days off per month a "hard" number? not sure what you are asking here
3) It has been asked before, but anyone care to share a typical schedule? 4 on, 2 off. Show and release times mostly around noon is what I have for August
4) Commutability; I live in PVD, 6 flights a day between here and PHL and most flights are not full from what I have seen. After a couple of months would I be able to come in the morning of Day 1 and go home the evening of Day 4? yes, our schedules are very commutable
5) What are the single folks paying towards medical insurance? Just looked, and it's $62.64 each paycheck
6) Haven't seen much regarding PDT crashpads in PHL; are they even necessary? I'm a junior lineholder and I don't have one.
7) What is a typical paycheck looking like these days (I have a mortgage and I'm single (no roommates) so the bills are all up to me. You are gonna hear a wide range of answers to this question depending who you ask and how much they work. We are currently still offering "triple premium" for open time which means they're paying 3x min day (4 hrs) per day on top of what the trip pays. I just picked up a 54 minute leg to an overnight and it'll pay 16 hours on top of guarantee. I typically average around a 110 hours of credit a month, some people do more and some do less.

OK, gotcha. So if I am understanding what folks have been telling me, 11 days off is the minimum days off in a month (I guess thats what most people end up with when the bid is awarded) and they can't junior man you to less than 11 days off. One of my previous replies to my question said they can only JM you 4 times a year. So, does that mean there might be a couple of months where I only have 10 or 9 days off due to a JM assignment?

Just curious what the total pilot count, NH, and attrition is looking like at PDT.
