May is when the flying picks back up and extra banks are added to phl and clt. Also the dca flying starts.

We're going to stretched to say the least.

Does that include any bwi flying? I used to catch a ride on pdt to philly on the early 6am, but that’s been gone for over a year. earliest now is 1040. i’m sure there is a place to look but i’m not sure where the pdt or aa roundup is posted.

On the travel planner, it doesn't show anything earlier than 1020 all summer out of BWI. Flights from DCA to PHL start at 5 or 6. Personally, I'd just drive from BWI to PHL. It takes less time and is a lot less stressful.

Because it's Charlotte, of course.

You all realize you can fly pink needles on an ILS until the final approach fix right

In prefer it. Just CMD HDG to join and switch over just prior. Makes the entire approach much smoother.

Yup.. I usually have the pf fly magenta and pm have the green up... one everything looks good stitch to magenta..

That being said, we shouldn't have to do that but unfortunately it's the best way to track 25 mile intercepts.

Another little AIM/terps thing right there. You should never track a localizer 25 miles out. It does not guarantee obstacle clearance that far out. Obviously not an issue in CLT, but as a general method, that's a bad idea.
Loc service volume is 18nm with 10 degrees either side, and 10nm with 10-35 degrees. The signal is not tested 25 miles out, and should not be used for course guidance.

You haven't flown to ORD yet, have you? Don't forget to include how 25 nm localizer intercept is unacceptable and won't be tolerated again in your CA's debrief.

You can intercept it, just don't use green needles as course guidance.

It's even in the book. "Use the PREV function to capture the ILS course while still using FMS as the active NAV source".
If CA manually flips to green needles 25nm out, well, that's his call. It's just kinda pointless.
Also, in FM1, "APPROACH mode should not be selected until the aircraft is within the ILS service volume (approximately 18 NM of the threshold)".
And yes, I've been to ORD, nothing there prevents you from flying it correctly. Main point being - don't go green 25 miles out. The signal and obstacle clearance is not guaranteed, and it's sort of against the book too.
