Just to give everyone a heads up. About 2 weeks ago we got an email from our union leadership at PSA about some stuff that’s in the works. Most of it not very exciting except for a new app that will help with scheduling, but there’s one thing you Piedmont FO lifers might be interested in... It’s going to be a requirement to be an active Captain for 2 years before being eligible to flow. The email makes it sound like that was our punishment for people “liking” a stupid Facebook post that encouraged a “job action”. But I had heard rumors of something like this for at least a year or so. I think the “job action” was a cover. It was probably coming down the pipe anyway. Just a heads up.

I agree. I think it should be a requirement. I dunno about 2 years but at least a year I’d say is good. Just wanted to give the FOs a heads up that want to flow.

Ill take bait... is the job of FO on a regional crj, 145, 175 any different than the job right seat on the 73, 190, bus... I'll argue we are all ATPs. Upgrading didn't mean im strong.. i was willing to take extra responsibility in trade for being on the bottom of the list for a small pay increase. Ive worked with many of our career fos.. many of them are doing great at mainline now... many of our career fos are excellent aviators and have valid reasons for not upgrading.
Now if the WOs paid us properly for left seat work than that is another story..

12 FO lifers at the top seniority list are costing the company upwards of $4mil/ year as they have to pay their salary as well as Salary and triple premium pay for 12 Captains to cover the flying they would have been doing. Forcing 12 FO lifers to upgrade if they want to flow saves the company $6mil over two years if they enforce a two year flow lock.
It’s in the Union’s financial interest to keep the status quo as they get more dues $ from a smaller pool of captains covering flying at triple premium rates, but the MEC chairman has previously expressed an unwillingness to expend negotiating capital for the benefit of First Officers and a willingness to work with the company to eliminate triple premium pay opportunities...
