Piedmont Airlines News & Rumors

Fly as high as you can for as long as you can, and try your best to plan a flight idle descent from cruise to the final approach fix.

The 145 has never been economical... 10 years ago it wasn't and still isn't. Which is why I was shocked we were getting them and adding more. Fuel is about to get really expensive............... Furthermore, watch your fuel numbers, been seeing that :45 minute reserve brought down below the required amount.... Fly safe guys/gals

Probably, but it’s still a prop plane to the public. There’s a reason there’s almost zero turbo props operating 121 in the continental United States now. I think even Horizon will be parking their Q’s.

While you may be correct, there are a ton of people here that have spent their entire life flying the Dash and remember it very fondly. Frankly, many of them are upset about the idea that a turboprop is considered unacceptable by the public which results in them losing their hometown airline, base, and plane. As a DEC, please do yourself a favor and don’t try to convince people otherwise. Just accept the history of the company that you’ve hitched your carrer to and the quirks that come with it. You’ll have a blast.

Well, Silver or whoever that operator in FL just purchased a bunch of ATRs. There will always be someone buying turbo props. Bombardier brought a Q to Sby to show what it could do when QX got their first batch. Biggest mistake was not getting them at Pdt. Look at our former ceo and it all makes sense. They were ready for them in Philly and “if” they would have pulled the trigger Pdt could have single handedly ran swa out of town on all those mid routes luv flew. Example phl-buf. q would have carried same amount and got there in same time. “Hey buddy” would never shut up about them and how we needed them...

Just having a discussion on why there’s pretty much no props left at any US airline. Much of the same arguments could be used for all different parts of the country and for all 3 major airlines. Flying LAX-SBA in a 700 makes no sense. Nor does DEN-COS, etc.
I think if all the airlines had kept their props it wouldn’t be a big deal to the public. But when given a choice between a prop or a jet, the average joe will choose a jet every time. So once the first major, delta maybe?, got rid of the props I think the others were forced to follow.

So while they will be the only ‘major’ regional with props, they will constitute only 1/3 of their a/c.
As an aside, half of the E175s are planned to be flown by SkyWest.

Horizon is headed towards 30 props from current 52. They are buying E175, with the plan of 60 by the end of next year.
