I know of 2 Pdt pilots hired to AA this year who were straight civilian outside of the flow. More last year w prior military. I’d say jumping to SWA is definitely a possibility. UA and Alaska have slowed their new hire training. Someone posted really good graphs about the hiring at AA. Current 2018 numbers. Everyone knows getting hired outside the flow isn’t impossible. But difficult. Last AA class has a PDT soe capt who was a real short timer. <3 years I think.

The most limiting factor is how hard you’re trying to leave... folks who are motivated shotgun their apps out, keep their apps upto date, have buddies write LORs and attend job fairs and do interview prep etc. do pretty well and seem to interview and leave on a regular basis (currently it seems like 5 flows and 1-2 folks from the line leaving to go elsewhere each month).

Lots of folks have been lazy/complacent/content enough to not make much of an attempt to leave... otherwise those #s would probably be much higher.

Thanks for the info. I do keep apps up to date, job fairs are a little harder if not nearby. AA is my best bet due to friends that flowed SWA is next. I have no contacts at UA. Having 0 jet time doesn’t help either. What do you estimate time is from Indoc to getting on line? Another thread mentions DECs getting training priority? This true?

Yes. You’ll be in the next ground school after your Indoc week.

The primary sims are CLT, ATL and PHX. The second CLT is set for August.

There are definitely a bunch more than 8. The pool of DEC hires goes back as far as February indoc. They were the first ones to go into systems as DECs and not as FOs. As for how many total, I have no idea.

Not true, look at the latest seniority list. There are two CA’s listed with a 5/7 start date. None before that. The bonus program also was not announced until mid April.

I see PDT aid advertising for Chief Pilot’s position.
What happened to that clown that came from Air Wisconsin ?
