Zondaracer: Haha, No he is not Travolta. Even though it would be pretty cool if it was
Wrxpilot, Cubdriver: I know that in today's world you can't really count on a man's word so I'm not diving at the opportunity. I'm definitely trying to look at the big picture. And as far as 9600 hr part, he started a trucking business 30 years ago and has grown up and down the east coast since. He has had multiple airplanes in his lifetime all for himself. He is 65 and only likes women and airplanes. LOL

I went through that while getting my type back in December. I was supposed to be operating single pilot for the aircraft owner, and as a crew while it chartered. The crew part was loosely defined as I was going to have a non typed right seat that was essentially an insurance requirement. I haven't gotten to see how all this would actually work since the plane I was hired to fly was never purchased.
Not sure how the Mustang is certified. Other Citations such as the Bravo are certified for a crew of two pilots, however a PIC can receive a single pilot type rating. Even if a pilot has a single pilot type, a qualified SIC may fly in the right seat and they operate under the original two pilot crew certification of the aircraft.

The worse you can come out of this is experience that isn't loggable, but it could be valuable in the future. I would at least inquire about what he is offering.

I hate to be so direct. But with 200TT, you have just started learning how to fly. Get your CFI and find out what you don't know about what you don't know. I know I'll get a lot of flak for this, but I am an old timer (read "old fart"), so I am entitled. I really did not feel totally comfortable flying until I had well over that time and had some instructing under my belt. Just my .02. Okay, here it comes....

I fell into the same situation, but after 1000hrs dual given. You definitatley can get your SIC in the citation mustang. Cessna provided the owner with a paid single pilot type and a discounted SIC type from Flight Safety. On another note I just saw this job posting today...Same guy?

I have a good connection with a guy who has just purchased a brand new Cessna Citation Mustang for himself/ his company. He flies from MD to FL twice a week for business and pleasure. I have made contact with him recently and showed my great interest in flying and a possible job in the future. He told me to come see him when I get my commercial ratings and he will see what he can do. He currently has 9600 hours of PIC time with only holding a private pilot instrument rating with type for Citation. He shows no interest in giving up his left seat so I would be getting a SIC job.

To me being 20 years old with so little time and still in school, it seems like a one in a million job, But is it? My question is, Is it better to stay at the flight school through CFI and instruct, getting PIC? Or be hired sitting right seat, getting SIC jet time?
My goal is to fly for corporate one day.

Thanks to all who read and respond!
Does a CAMEL rating allow you to operate two camels or is that a multi camel rating?

Things to consider:

1) I'm putting this one first because it's the most important. DO NOT turn down other opportunities that arise just because you want this one to work out. There are plenty of great flying jobs out there. Do not count on this one panning out. Keep your options open. Don't think that this is the "best" opportunity for you and that "nothing else comes close." These opinions will only hurt your progress.

2) While you may not be able to log the time, this sounds like a GREAT opportunity for some extra cash and experience. When I was instructing, I had the opportunity to fly several folks around the country in their private aircraft to score some cash and stories. It's good fun.

3) Don't let his pride and money kill you. It isn't easy to stand up to someone when you're in their private airplane paying you good money - especially someone powerful. Just remind yourself that's why they brought you along.

4) If you eventually want to fly corporate, this could be a good networking opportunity.

5) I like lists, get over it

Hope that helped!

I gave a presentation this past year on single pilot resource management at the annual convention for the association that's made up of private owner/operators of a certain model of single pilot jet. A very interesting bunch to say the least. I think that's a very real character trait of a high net worth individual operating a jet - they did not get where they were in life by playing it safe. Not generalizing but it is something to be considered.

Haha. I understand that this world is like it is and it is hard to go off a man's word. So I haven't got my hopes up. Thank you for the advice. I'm going for my CFI since i have already paid for it.
