Default Grand Canyon Jobs

So I've been seeing in previous posts that there are a few outfits that give aerial tours of the grand canyon. What I am curious about is if they are hiring or not?

Is this a time-building type of job, where they get pilots for a few months to years then they move up, or is it similar to an airline where everyone is competing for rank?

In the early 1990's times were tuff as they are now. A company in Henderson LV was advertising for pilots. I sent in a resume and in a short time was called back with an interview date. At the time I had just finished a six month gig flying the Alaskan bush so I was current and qualified on the Cessna 207.

They were advertising for 207 pilots so I though I was a shoe in. I drove all the way to Las Vegas for the interview and passed with flying colors. Then the chief pilot asked for a check in the amount of $5500 or for 15,000 if I wanted to fly the 402.

Welcome to aviation ! Let the humiliation begin.

I've applied to tons out there and haven't heard a peep. The economy I think is keeping these places down.

I worked at scenic for 3 years. It was a pretty good gig. Fun flying, good people. Multi turbine time in a sweet airplane, Twin Otter.

Most people use it as a time building thing. Some guys stick around for a while because they like being home every night.

Summer is the busy season, but they do most of the hiring in Dec-mar for the upcoming season.

FO starting pay is 12/duty hour. With a monthly guarantee of 125 hours (I think). Works out to be around 1500-1700 a month. But in the summer you will work and earn a lot more.

Anyway they are real jobs and I feel like I learned a lot which helped me get the current regional job I have now.
