Cleaning 100LL Stains
Our Mooney has the normal wet wing weep and the stains to prove it. Does anyone have a trick to clean the stains? 100LL worked pretty well on the light stains, but the darker edges are still there. I only worked on it for about an hour, so maybe soaking or more elbow grease is needed.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

If it's grease, go to home depot, wal mart or a similar store, and get some commercial degreaser. Spray on and wipe off, that easy! Also, MEK (Methyl Ethal Keytone) could be used as a last resort, Laquer Thinner are good as well, but these have toxic fumes. But the Degreasers will handle the fuel stains as well.

If you use this stuff, BE CAREFUL WITH IT. Wear gloves that don't break down in it. It will absorb into your skin. It's wicked stuff. Some counties in CA have outlawed it (but that doesn't mean much, since Happy Meal toys have been banned in San Francisco).

ha some loser at my airport was asking me that question a few weeks ago after he accused me of doing that to his RV. He said he spent two hours trying to clean it off with simple green. I would have stopped 15 minutes later after seeing it doesnt work... but thats him. The degreaser sounds like a good idea though. If someone asks me again I'll suggest it.

100LL stains clean pretty well with common & cheap Meguiar's Car Cleaner Wax. If the sealant is breaking down and leaking out, that does not clean as easy. It also leaves behind a wax which protects the finish until washed away by more 100LL.
I'd stay away from Simple Green since some versions of the product are highly corrosive to aluminum and trace amounts will get pushed under rivets and between skins when you rinse. Also, Simple Green tends to redistribute stains more than clean them.
Of course, it is a Mooney. Not many people flexible enough to look under there.
