Rick I second what CSIP says- a CFII is what you need at this point. That's what I am doing because I need the practice, not so much because it looks good on my resume. Airline flying is very heavy on instrument skills, and you need to be sharp on that. You can get a CFII as your initial instructor certificate and it is probably the best way to do it.

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the truth hurts! I know I know, I am putting on the tie tomorrow and going to CAE, the head inst. called me back and said be here 10AM with a resume in hand. I just do not want to teach!!!! I hate teaching, HATE IT, I honestly believe people are morons, and I am going to hate it. The other problem is I am paid well flying jumpers, I dont think I can match my pay/being 10 min from work, doing anything else, plus I have no money to get my CFI, and I am still burnt out from working and doing my Comm/Inst all at once two years ago along with college, I just want some time to relax. But I know I will need to do it, I just do not want to, I am hoping to find a shortcut, maybe the SIM internship is it. Thanks everyone.

You can relax when you turn 65! And maybe once or twice between now and then!
Good luck! And I didn't suggest that you should teach. I just suggested getting the CFII since it will get you instrument current, which you need, get you some more cross country, which you also need, and give you one more qualification to put you ahead of other candidates. You don't actually have to teach!
By the way, people aren't actually morons. You probably have a thinking and learning style that puts you in the minority, which makes it appear that people are morons to you. They are, in most cases, just gifted in other ways. Took my second wife 10 years to teach me that. Prior to that, I thought all people were morons too! Good Luck!

I got the gig at CAE. I also got an interview coming up with Great Lakes, the 121 ride however is that not till the end of school? Would I not already have washed out? I am also going to do a bunch of IR currency this week.
Rickt, you might want to put on a tie and go over to Morristown and talk to the people there. If you could get on as a sim right seater it would vastly improve your ability to get a job with a regional and actually pass the training. Unfortunately, dumping jumpers doesn't help at all with your instrument flying abilities, or the flying skills needed to pass Part 121 training. If I were in your shoes right now, I would pursue the Morristown thing, continue to look for any opportunity to fly anywhere you can, and get your CFII, even if you don't want to instruct. It will make you get instrument current and it will make you study the regulations again. Make sure every flight is a cross country. You can do as much BAI, holds, nav tracking and approaches flying 50 miles, doing a touch and go, and flying back as you can staying local.
By the way, you have the times for Great Lakes, but they have a very high washout rate, and a Part 121 failure could make the rest of your career very difficult! You have got to get instrument current and proficient no matter who calls, but if they do, it will be even harder for you!
Good luck!

I just do not want to teach, I do not enjoy it, and I do not want to teach its just that simple. Its good for some people, I do not have the patience for it, maybe its just a New Jersey thing.
Since you have such a high opinion of other people whom you have not even met, and consider to be "morons", maybe you should have just kept flying jumpers. Does not take much to do that. As a professional flight instructor for the past 36 years I am glad that YOU were never one of my students. I learned more about flying with other people of varying backgrounds than any other way. Did you ever consider that when you were learning to fly, that your instructor(s) considered YOU to be a moron? Ah, retrospect...

Thanks! But of course aviation has to mix it up for me which trust me I am not complaining. I dont get one single phone call about a job for the last years, then I am super excited for this CAE thing, figure ill push more for otter/kingair flying next season and work down at our year round jump school more this winter and cross bridges later. Oh and get my CFI in Feb when I have tons of free time. Of course 3 hours after I leave CAE, my phone rings from Air Hampton a 135 op, and an hour later Great Lakes calls for an interview.
