Default San Diego Night Flying!

Hey Everyone! like most everyone here, flight time is the goal; not the paycheck and I'm no different. I'm sitting right at 800TT however, I'm severely lacking in my night time! I'm eligible for the restricted ATP at 1250 hours from school and my fear is that I'll get to 1250TT and not have the required night hours, delaying me to get to the airlines. So heres my proposition!

1) I would love to find someone to split time with! Only looking to fly at night though. I get plenty of day VFR flying as a CFI but students only go on 2 night flights per my schools syllabus limiting how much I can pick up. If you want to split some night time let me know! I can be your safety pilot so you can fly and do practice approaches and keep your currency! We can get creative and make it benefit both of us! I have access to planes to rent, so let me know! Price would be $65 wet!

2) In need of a CFI??? I'll sell my soul for night hours! I have a full time job that pays all the bills so I don't need the money! If you rent the plane, throw me in the right seat and lets go fly! Again, has to be at night though! So lets do your night requirements! Need to knock out your 10 Take offs / landings for private pilot? Let me know! How bout your 100nm night XC?? I'm your guy.

Me: Commercial SEL; Commercial MEL; High performance endorsement; Complex endorsement; CFI (550 dual given); available almost any night of the week!

In San Diego so I have fairly quick access to Gillespie, Montgomery, Brown, Palomar, and Oceanside.

Any Questions!??? let me know!

Default Nice to meet you

Just out of curiosity, what is you full time job? I would like to call them and let them know I will do your job for free. I do not need the money, but I bet it would be fun.

Cheers

Yeah, don't ever volunteer to fly for free, unless you're a private pilot. That might get you blackballed from any union shop (ie all the good jobs) if they get wind of it.

Don't feel bad, you're not the first noob to express that particular sentiment, but you definitely need to take this to heart.

Yes, never give away what you sell. I was in a similar situation a few years ago. had to do everything in my power to squeak in with .5 hrs over the RATP night mins. Take night flights from other CFIs, schedule IFR students at night, etc. You've got time to figure it out without flying for free.

Good Luck

I am kind of in the same boat, I need 100 hours of night for my R-ATP and I am already at 50. I am a little over 300 hours TT now so I have no doubt I will get to 100 before reaching the R-ATP mins. I am CFI and CFII.

I am up front with my students and tell them that about 1 out of every 5 flights will be at night because they will be earning a certificate that allows them to fly at night. Then I schedule them at night. Instrument at night over the desert outside of Vegas hardly even requires foggles- so the instrument training is better. The private students need a night local and a night cross country as well. You will get your hours and your students will get better training especially when it comes runway and other night illusions. None of them have complained about flying over Vegas at night either.

You don't need to do it for free.
