Low-time gigs out of Juneau?
Hey all,
I am newly minted ~260 TT CSEL/MEL holder, instrument current, hoping to have my CFI ride done by the end of the month. Currently living in Anchorage and my wife recently received a promotion opportunity from her company for a position in Juneau. Are there anytime low-time jobs down there? A Google search only revealed one school, (which seems like just a guy with a 172, no website). I wasn't expecting a plethora of CFI jobs there (for reasons Im sure which some of you understand) but hoping there was at least one mainstream operation I might be able to hitch onto. CFI jobs aside, low-time 135 stuff? Alaska Seaplanes seems like it would be fun, challenging job but I am not sure if they'd take someone as inexperienced as myself. I am willing to gas up planes and toss dock lines if it means getting a foot in the door.
Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks,
MM

Unless someone uses SIC in something, you might need 500 hours to get anyone to look at you.
Seaplanes was fun but when I was there, not really all that challenging. Definitely the very low end of the pay scale, even with my Alaska experience, unless you have a sea plane rating.
You will gas up planes and throw luggage pretty much anywhere in Alaska in 135 operations.
If Seaplanes is the only option, you might start out in cargo until you get more hours. I knew a couple people that did that.
Good luck

Plenty of Part 135 ops, but you are short hours for that. VFR 135 ops require 500 hrs. As for Alaska Seaplanes, it's a very good place to work. Great people and quality operation. They always need ramp help for the summer and then will keep you beyond that if you do a good job. Pilot pay has come up to market levels as well. I've worked there recently and expect to return for summer flying.

There are virtually no CFI opportunities in Juneau. Just not much demand. I've done some CFIing there, but made the connections through flying part 135. And all in the students aircraft.
