Sitting fat up in Denver. It looks like they have enough people committed to class dates to up the f/o count in preparation for the SOCO routes opening in October. Things may be slowing down hiring wise.

Still worth a shot applying though. Internal recs do go a long way here. I'd apply, keep flying, and if you don't hear anything send an updated resume once you have some more time under your belt. No downside not to!

United has recently launched a new training program with the Lufthansa flight training center in Arizona. United screens potential student pilots, sends them through flight school and after the student instructs for 18 months they go to United mainline. My friend is an instructor there and has a class date already. While I agree Frontier makes sense, I do know United is concerned and taking steps. FYI, United's Senior Vice-President of Flight Ops was traveling on Boutique, conversing and handing out his business card.....

I did an initial screening phone interview today. The questions were as expected (why do you want to work here, where did you hear about us, aviation qualifications, how did you handle a coworker conflict, provide an example of excellent customer service, etc).
On a more useful note, she said they are pretty well set for Denver. She said they're having trouble getting folks based at MSP, so that seems to be their focus presently.
The next step will be a phone interview of a more technical nature in a week or two if they feel I'd be a good fit based on my answers.

This is simply not true. They have agreements with CommutAir and ExpressJet and they do, do some training in Arizona but the canadates do NOT go straight to United mainline after instructing.

I'm curious as to what they do then. It says "Participants that meet the required service requirements, performance record, and accumulated flight hours will have an opportunity to fly for United. Once selected and hired by United, these pilots would start as United "new hires" and would be eligible to fly aircraft in United's narrow body fleet." It seems pretty cut and dry, go through the selection process, do well in training, instruct for who knows how long, then if they are selected start flying for United.

With how the majors retirements are going to start picking up in the next 5-10 years and United wanting to expand their pilot numbers to over 14,000. You never know what is going happen. Will they take a pilot with no multi time? Probably not, but I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing guys getting picked up with 4-500 hours multi turbine time.
