Hey guys,
Looks like I have an October class date. I'm hearing that I will most likely get a Caribbean base but who knows. I live in CT. Do any current or former Cape pilots commute to the carribean from the northeast? How viable is this? How much time off per week will I get?
Thanks!
I've also been hearing some mixed things about FO training and high failure rates. Do you suggest I go get IFR current before class?

Commuting is possible but not always easy. San Juan can be a headache to get into/out of at times. There's tons of guys commuting that have high seniority. There's a few redeyes to save the day. Cape is not very tolerant of no-showing due to commuting, and that is reflected in their commuting policy. Living in the Carib is also very expensive and decent living arrangements can be difficult to find on our kind of salary. The sooner that you start reaching out to find something, the better.

It's been done recently. Only way it's really possible is if you're incredibly senior, flying a legacy route in New England, picking up incentive shifts to work 6 days a week, and sell back your vacation time to the company. It's possible but extremely difficult.

That sounds miserable. Kiss your QOL of life goodbye. Can get to mainline faster then that and enjoy more money and half the work. 4 days of 14 hour duty days was already rough enough.
