No use in splitting hairs. Just log time as how it applies to you now. Because really it does really matter. You're either qualified or your not. Even as a PPL, or CFI I was never concerned about how one company applies time vs another or how what regs determines certain times. Just log it how it applies to you now.

I was under the impression that you only count "part" of the flight as x-country time for 135. For example, take a 2.0 flight to an airport thats 10 miles from departure to do touch n goes, you cannot use the whole time since some of the time was spend doing traffic pattern. So out of that 2.0 flight if you fly at 1.5 nm per min(avg for C172) you can only count 1.2. can anyone else confirm or deny this? Thanks.

If you want to stay safe, I highly recommend logging the 50nm (or More) with a landing at that distance as X/C. For any rating other than the ATP. If you were going for the ATP, you could fly out 100 nm and back without landing at your first destination airport and log that as X/C. Just use the 50nm criteria and generally nobody will ask any questions. This is from a 34 year CFI/II.

The time spent doing touch and goes cannot be logged as XC because you're just landing at the same airport over and over and over again. The time spent going to and from that airport is XC.

Why worry about nm/min? Just look at your Hobbs. Or your watch. How ever long it takes you is what you log... no need to average anything.

they are not vague, they are very specific. You are just surprised with how lax it is.
