They're opening a new base?! I thought with the furloughing going on that they wouldn't be opening a new base? How are they doing this and still furloughing pilots? Does this mean pilot hiring may resume soon?

Originally they announced 50-60 pilots would be furloughed. The reason for this was because Airnet lost a lot of bank business in a very short time. The new base is just a handful of runs that will help reduce the number of furloughs. There were also a number of pilots that took a voluntary furlough and others that decided to just move on. So the number of involuntary furloughs was probably much less than that.

I believe the final furlough number was 39. The new base and routes had not yet been awarded to Airnet when the furlough notices went out. Once we were officially notified that our bid on the work had been accepted and had a firm start date, those new routes were bid out to all pilots.
