4/3 and 7/7 tend to go pretty senior on the Captain side, one might still be able to sneak in a line on the FO side as we are short FOs right now. I’ve been with the company for quite some time now and have not heard anything more than rumours about the JetBlue interview. Hope this helps.

After reading a lot of the threads here and posting several questions I thought I would share what I have learned for anyone thinking of commuting to OAK at JSX (I may be the only one right now). It was reading some of the recent posts (below) that got me thinking:
This is somewhat different info from what I was given at the interview but maybe more honest, only time will tell. I am in the November class and will be commuting by car about 2.5 hours to OAK, I have a couple friends and non immediate family that my be able to help me out on overnights in base and from the research I’ve done $350/month is about the best you can do for a crash pad in OAK. There’s a lot of Airbnb’s available short notice as well for $30-$50 a night but like stated here:

They have some patterns that you learn to see pretty often. 3-5 legs a day. Duty between 7-11.5 hours is somewhat typical. A few min rests in the rotation pretty typical. As is a few 1-2 leg days. It’s a total crapshoot but a combo of all of the above.
For an 8 day rotation be prepared to be gone all 8 days. Some bases are home basically every night it seems (OAK) while others are gone all the time (LAS). I’d say expect 66% overnights for now though.
if I’m back in base every night that would also be different from what I was told and would be very difficult to sustain for very long. Hopefully there isn’t any kind of bait and switch going on here, I honestly don’t think there is, maybe just some conflicting info. I am committed to try and make this work and looking forward to being part the team at JSX so once I’ve got a few rotations under my belt I will give an honest update on how commutable OAK is and if it’s worth it as it is hard to tell at the moment.
As I mentioned in some earlier threads I was told (at the interview) that there are several people commuting to OAK already but unfortunately I have not been able to confirm this on the forum since I have had no replies from those individuals. If you are one of those and have any current info, as always it would be greatly appreciated, for now I am ok ”rolling the dice” and will have to trust that it will all work out.

If you decide to commute at the airlines you’re always going to be rolling the dice. Nothing is guaranteed. They made it clear that JSX is for those that want to live in base, but nobody is going to stop you from commuting. I would also consider commuting to Vegas since it’s been said you’re gone more than OAK. It also seems like schedules are changing all the time as new planes arrive, maybe by the time you’re on line OAK might be better.

I’ve never used ZED fares, only the free travel with a partner airline. About how much can we expect to pay for a flight say NY to LA. Also is it immediate online listing or do we have to talk to a “bureau” to set up the flights.

It’s myidtravel which is a listing tool for nonrev travel. Zed fares are broken down by distance. NY to LA would be about $75. If you don’t get on you can be refunded.

This would make sense for JB to offer this given the investment in JSX. Would be interesting if the upcoming MOXY also offered a path (although haven’t heard anything regarding that).

Do you meet the requirements to become a PIC? If yes, then You are quick upgrade eligible. However, if you can’t get through OE in the left seat, they may advise that you complete some more time in the right seat prior to upgrade.

If you are coming from the 121 world, are sharp, have a good attitude and do well at CAE + IOE - you can expect to upgrade in 30 days from you finishing right seat IOE. Some have done it even sooner. Point is, and they’ll say this to you at indoc, your ability to upgrade will depend on you and your skills vs time.
We are fat on Captains right now but that will only last for a few months. Explosive growth coming in 2020. Better to be temporarily fat on PIC’s than FOs.

Your ability to upgrade here quickly will be based on merit and personal recommendations from our check airmen (we call our non FAA check airmen Cat B’s) Seniority doesn’t play a role that much with upgrading. You need to show that you’re comfortable with the operation and that you understand the airplane, our SOP, GOM, Opspecs et al. Also, the Captains here are responsible for the flight planning, fuel load + weight and balance for each flight. We don’t use dispatchers for that. All is done through the EFB and it is taught to you extensively on IOE.

We are short FOs now for sure. I am a Captain and spend half my time in the right seat flying with another Captains and visa versa. Hard to be profitable this way but I am sure this is temporary until the hiring catches back up.

Can somone clarify the 401k program? Am I correct reading they only match up to a max of 4% if you put in 8%? That seems really low to me; my lowly regional has a better retirement package. Am I not reading that right?
