The era of long-haul seaplanes ended when people built enough terrestrial airports. Now they're capacity-clogged and far from downtown (although BOS, LGA, JFK and EWR are fairly close, if via jammed highways).
Seaplanes are more expensive to operate, take more maintenance, carry fewer PAX and are slower. Caribbean, maybe. Dodging ice flows in Boston Harbor and the Hudson doesn't seem too wise. Maybe that's why they haven't started doing it. Yet.
