New Hire FO CommutAir
Afternoon everyone,
Writing this post to see what everyone's opinions are on commuting out of Charlotte. Most likely will get either EWR or IAD as a base and trying to find somewhere affordable to live. Have family in Charlotte and housing is relatively cheap there. Any thoughts??

IAD could work well out of CLT as there should be a lot of flights to both DCA and IAD. Ground transport to IAD from DCA takes about an hour (Metro to West Falls Church, Wash Flyer to IAD) and maybe $6-8 out of pocket with a crew badge.
Trying to get between the three airports in the NYC area is much more of a pain.

As a non-rev you can commute on any United or United Express flight.
The short answer is while you can get a higher boarding priority on United Express flights, you can catch a ride on just about 99% of 121 aircraft. You'll have lots of options between CLT and the DC area.
Important tools to be aware of are passrider.com on the web and the FlightBoard app available on your phone.

As for CLT, there are very good options to IAD and EWR. You have the ability to list as a jumpseater on US Airways as well. They run an A321 a lot on EWR so that's 2 jumpseats available to you. IAD is usually a CRJ900. There are several crash pads that guys use but I can't give any specifics. I'm sure if you ask around while in training you could get a good answer.

Drop the PSA stuff already. OP asked a commuting question pertaining to C5. If you want to talk about PSA, find their thread.
Effective moderating if I've ever seen it.
Should I put the sarcasm tag here or is it understood?
