Hiring
Big gains for FOs, big gains for commuters. A definite win on the part of our union negotiators to be sure.
Will it be enough to increase hiring and retention? I have no idea..... If the Captains aren't happy with their raise, there's way more of them than there are FOs, especially if probationary members can't vote.

I won't even apply unless pay goes up a bit, just cant afford that.

Not sure if you are basing your pay analysis on what is on APC profile for CommutAir, but the listed pay is not correct.
Starting F.O. pay is now $30.00/hour.
Still not a livable wage, but a vast improvement, and I suspect higher than just about all other regionals. If upgrades stay in the 2-3 year range, then financially it is probably better than most regionals.

Turbo props are more fun! I flew the CRJ-200/900 for 5 years and while those are fine airplanes, I really enjoy the dash
As for being "behind the curve," I wouldn't worry about that at all. Upgrades haven't happened in a few months bc we're short FO's so our upgrade is running a little over 2 years. There are 6 new hires in class for April and I believe we'll be over 10 new hires in May if what I've been hearing is true. Upgrades are sure to follow since we've cancelled a few flights over the last couple weeks for no crews, including captains. Just for perspective, CommutAir hasn't had upgrades ever go over 3-3.5 years in the last 10 years. And the only reason it went up that high at one time was due to the big recession a couple years back. Hope that helps.

Now is not "behind the curve" at all. We have A LOT of captains itching to get out, many with interviews, and very few seem to have the "holding out for the call from DL/AA etc" mentality.

All other things being equal, they'd probably take the jet pilot. But you're goal should make things unequal. go there with the idea that you want to get your PIC time quicker, become a check airmen quicker, get the opportunity to get positions that in the company that would normally take half a decade to get at others. In 3 or 4 years, you may look more attractive than a 3 or 4 year regional FO. There is no shortage of prop guys that have gone to the majors. I met a captain at FedEx who flew the Dash for Piedmont prior to going to FedEx.

All I have flown is turbo props... for other airlines but non the less. I have 7 years experience flying the sf340 for 2 airlines. I upgraded in 3 years (during the recession) and made line check airman after spending a year in the left seat. My company went out of business and I was lucky enough to get hired on at another carrier that was adding Saabs to their program. I came in at exactly what I was making at my previous carrier and added another line check airman letter and eventually a pc check airman letter. I have a class date with Spirit in May and I have never flown a jet.

I think anybody with 121 turbine Glass/FMS time will be just fine. Most applications that I know of don't differentiate much between jet or t-prop time.
