I know, don't drink the kool aid...It sounds like they are trying to make a better QOL for the pilots. I was also told they need 80, yes eighty pilots this year. Do that many guys jump ship from there.
Hi kavu, just wondering, from who did you hear they need 80 pilot's, and do you know why they need that many folks, people leaving, more airplanes, more flying?

Sorry to hijack, but that might be part of Silver managements bag of tricks, tell that to a potential new hire to give them the illusion that A.) They will be senior very quickly with 80 pilots below them and B.) there will be some big growth.

You have to put it into context, Silver is competing in the open market place with other airlines for talent. A few white lies are going to be required to staff the company.

A few white lies might be okay, but not the hogwash they seem to be feeding interview candidates.

As for needing 80 pilots, it wouldn't surprise me if we needed that many or more. With the current attrition and with FAR 117 right around the corner... we need all the pilots we can get. We just don't need them lied to for them to decide to come here.

There HR department called me and since I have been around the block a few times I don't believe much they say. But, what they said is they will be going to major hub basing and that they need 80 pilots. I think every regional out there needs 80 pilots. I also have a friend going thru their saab class now and he heard the same thing.

Going to hub basing will decrease the total number of pilots needed. They need to hire for the large attrition going on and probably a little for 117.

But if central basing and 80 pilots was really in the cards, wouldn't the existing pilot group know about this in an effort to stop the exodus?

They're like the Mayor in "Jaws." They are going to to ignore this particular problem until it swims up and bites them in the ass. Unfortunately for all of us in the trenches, it means our paychecks are in jeopardy. They think that there is no need to raise pay or move to hub basing in order to retain and attract new pilots, and are in fact demanding concessions from us. They have said the only way they will move to hub basing is if we "buy" it from them through major concessions to existing work rules. I don't know what they think they will accomplish with this tactic, but what they WILL accomplish is to chase away the people they need to move their metal. Very bad for business if an airline can't find people to fly its planes.

But what do I know? I'm just a line pilot.
