Just got the word they're sending me to TPA this weekend. Been in IAD on reserve all month, now I get to move around again!

Word is they have LOTS of trips in open time down in TPA for the Saab starting on the 19th. Seems the backlog in MSP is pretty bad apparently. Something like 4 trips a day in open time. I'm gonna be busy. Beats staring at the inside of a hotel room all day waiting for a call.

All the TPA Saab flying from about the 13th through the end of the month was dumped into open time. They didn't want to build schedules that had pilots sitting for almost two weeks doing nothing.

I know several lines had already been built for TDY pilots in TPA, but there still is a lot of open time left to cover.

I'm on the list to do TDY in TPA, but I'd like to go to IAD or ATL. How has the flying been in ATL or IAD? I was supposed to start IOE this am, but the captain called out sick, so hopefully I can get it knocked out fast and get back to flying, looks like I have 2 weeks off before I come back to finish IOE.

The IAD stuff is so simple.

From CKB its just CKB-MGW-IAD or maybe CKB-IAD. Then you do the occasional IAD-SHD-BKW-IAD. All-in-all it's not bad as long as you know how to be out early!

PROTIP: If you wanna be out early from IAD have your FO (Or you if you're the CA) personally walk up to the gate agent 30 prior and ask to board ASAP. If there's no other flight boarding just stand there until they start the announcements to board.

What will happen ordinarily is you ask to board 45 minutes prior, 40 minutes prior, 35 minutes prior and finally 15 minutes prior. The first pax gets on 10 minutes prior and you're 10 late.

You've gotta be PROACTIVE in IAD....

It's like you're doing someone else's job...

...but that's the Dulles way!

Five guys breakfast sandwich with coffee at 7:00am makes the 7 leg day just a little easier

I'll just start sending delay reports that say I can't be on time if I have to do my job AND be a ramper and gate agent...

But if you're not delayed apparently you still have to fill them out...which in many cases could cause delay. Filling out a delay form, even though not delayed, thus causing a delay. Plot for Inception 2? A delay within a delay within another delay. Mind=blown.
