Ya why would anyone want to work at silver. All of us that are new to the industry with unimpressive resumes should consider other options. Lets see here... What would make an ideal company to start my career with? An airline that will hire us with our low time. An airline that is expanding which gives a little job security. A bonus would be an airline that currently offers upgrade slots to anyone that has their 1500 hours. Another bonus for me would be to be 30% of the way up the seniority list by the time I am done with IOE. An airline that has Florida bases would be great. Who am I kidding, there isn't a place with all of these things that I am looking for in an employer. Maybe I should just give up and troll the forums instead by going to threads that are for companies I don't work at or know anything about. None of those making negative comments would ever have gone to work for a company like silver when they were in our shoes. I am sure that within the next 90 minutes or so someone with an extensive resume will quote me and tear me apart for one reason or another due to my lack of experience in the industry but all you do is justify my somewhat sarcastic points. if I am to be more experienced or knowledgeable I need a job flying airplanes.
There are a lot of people in this industry that have an uncertain future at their current carrier or are already facing furloughs. Why cant we support those facing hardship instead of coming here to complain about something solely for the enjoyment of ****ing people off like some kind of genital measuring contest?

The reasons that you listed for going there, while certainly a possibility, are exactly that. A possibility. If you go in with low-time, it'll be 1.5-2 years before you had upgrade mins. Who knows what will be happening there at that time. Florida bases? Senior. Job security? How about banking on EAS flying, that the government is trying to get rid of? Seems like declining job security. 30% up the list after IOE. 30% isn't much when there are 200 pilots on property.
I'm not knocking Silver or the guys there, but that's the resolution I came to when I decided against it. Not to mention that with 400 hours and about a quarter of solid IFR time, I wasn't too keen on jumping into a 1900 with folks in the back. YMMV.
Our resumes are probably pretty similar, and I'm not tearing your post apart. Just offering a little different perspective. Apply and if get the job! Then you can make the decision and I hope it works out for everyone! I really do.
Cheers!

I'm low-time too. About 400/110. I interviewed and was hired then turned down the March class. I had similar thoughts when I was applying, but Silver was my absolute last option.

By all means if you can think of a better place to go where movement happens even half this fast please let me know. Your comments were not disrespectful per se and that is what I was attacking is the silver thread douche bag of the day award winners(hmmmm the STDDA. I will be nominating those that are worthy. Stay tuned!). People that come on here and say something that is about as mature and coherent as Lindsay Lohan at a family reunion. In closing, thank you for your respectful comments and polite demeanor (and not being a STDDA nominee) however i disagree with your thoughts.

I have almost 800. I could be in upgrade class by thanksgiving or sooner. Not to mention that doing 1000 hours a year is easy and expected at Silver so not 1.5 to 2 years, 1 year plus or minus some months depending on someones actual hours. Florida bases are not as senior as you would think for the FO's. New hires have been getting both TPA and FLL right out of training. As for the EAS stuff Silver has, it isn't going anywhere. Silver has several bids in to increase the EAS flying not get rid of it. As for moving up the seniority list, it could be 100 1,000 or 10,000 pilots. Doesn't matter much really. Movement up is good. As for you not being comfortable flying passengers? Your choice. As far as applying and IF I get the job I can make a decision then? I already made that decision. I was in the January class. Wouldn't change a thing.

So you'll fly 700 hours in 6 months? I applaud you. I remeber when I was young and naive. Must be nice. Ive flown with plenty of guys to come out of Gulfstream, I mean Silver. Best of luck to you in your young career, I'm sure you'll never have to face the realities of the industry that every one else is looking at now. Silver has a pretty good retirement program if I remember correctly.
Are you sure you're a pilot? You're a funny guy, I like you... And if you had a bit on comedy central, I'd watch you.. If you had a twitter, I'd follow you..Your kinda like a funny Jesus.

I'll refer you to my agent, Sean Menke, although he's probably a little busy right now. I'm not attacking Silver, please don't get me wrong. Might even be better than where I am prospective wise. I just remember back when I got hired and upgrades were a year at best, 5 years later no upgrade in sight. Only advice is don't let your bubble get too big cause you'll be covered in a lot of goo when it bursts.

you mean 7 months? Ya why not?? I definitely would not be the first silver pilot that is flying 100 hours a month. As for the rest of what you took the time to type? I hope you are enjoying yourself. At no point did i insinuate that I am impervious to the bad that many in this industry see daily. I actually commented to quite the opposite. People LIKE YOU are the ones bringing this industry down. Yes you. Pilots go home and when they walk in the door to see their family, the wife will say something like "How was your trip honey?" and the reply because of people like you goes something like this, "Horrible. I had to fly with that Douchebag captain/FO I told you about that everybody hates. I am so sick of his negativity and everyone else keeps calling in sick when they have trips with him just to avoid him." Ya dude. You are that guy. Congrats. When you got into this profession long ago was it, "I really wanna fly airplanes! I think it would be fun to fly every day!" or was it, "I am a miserable prick. might as well go fly for an airline and see how many other people I can make as miserable as me." Thanks for showing me exactly what I don't want to be. Feel free to prove my point by saying something else childish and petty so everyone here can see you attempt to compensate for being "that guy"
