Default Silver Airways Not Accepting FD Jumpseaters?

I tried to catch a ride from PNS to TPA last week on a full Silver Airways flight, and the gate agent said as a OAL pilot that I couldn’t ride the jumpseat because they don’t have CASS. I showed her where they do indeed have CASS and I asked to speak with the Captain. She said she went and asked him, and he reiterated that he would not be allowing me in the jumpseat.

He never left the cockpit during the turn, but had plenty of time—I was there 1+ hour prior to departure. The plane left without me.

I told the gate agent that that’s kind of a big party foul, and she said that Silver ATR pilots never allow jumpseaters. Is this true? If so I guess I’ll need to adjust my own JS policies for Silver pilots.

Yeah, definitely let your JS coordinator know.

I’m guessing she never actually asked him

I jumped on Silver from PNS-MCO over the summer and they wouldn’t let me ask the captain for permission to ride. I had a seat, but she told me that there was no way to speak to the crew. The flight deck door was never opened. Seems like more or less how they operate these days.

We certainly allow jumpseaters on our airline. The problem may have been with weight... If the plane was full, plus bags, we were probably at our max takeoff weight and couldn't take on more unfortunately.

The ATR has a cargo compartment between the door you see and the actual cockpit door. I tried to jump seated with them once. Captain happened to be at the gate when I checked in. There was an empty cabin seat, but he said cockpit was unavailable because he was check airman doing IOE, didn't want a jumpseater there for IOE to be 'respectful' to his trainee

Thats BS! Make sure anytime you are denied a jumpseat you give all the info to your jumpseat coordinator. Silver can be removed from reciprocal agreements if they have a pattern of denying jumpseats.
