Point is this: there is no perfect job, especially in aviation. If you work 60 hours a week, live paycheck to paycheck but are passionate about what you do, you will be happier. For me, and many others, there is no challenge in 121 flying. Way too canned for me. If F16 or anyone else finds no enjoyment in what they did/do, then move on...it really is that easy.
Honestly, pay me a livable wage, give me access to a Supercub and a mission, and I would be happy. Heavy iron and epaulets do not excite me...flying does.

I'll take flying to diverse airports providing superior service to hitting the same 4 airports all month behind a fortress door hauling the bus terminal crowd.
Well said, Captain.

And that is why I like wildfire recon flying in a Cessna 182. 500 feet above the forest offers the best view of what is on the ground. The excitement of seeing a plume of smoke or a black bear can't be experienced from the flight levels. Plus, the work day starts at 10:00 and ends at sunset.

What do ya think you'll do a ton of... X country 4-5 hr legs, a reposition and maybe another NY- Fl leg.. 10 hr layover and maybe 5 legs the next day.
****, I did 2 transcons in one day at NJA.. With a stop in PIT....
Unless you get on a small fleet... Then it'll be 4-5 1 hr legs up and down the East Coast.." Sure you'll hit up some different airports.. But get real used to TEB, HPN, IAD"
Oh, and there is TSA in the FBO in BOS.. Atleast there used to be...
To each there own....I enjoy the 121 life of turning left to the cockpit nowadays

Jungle, last I remember we still wore epaulets at Netjets. Also, what major 121 carrier did you fly for?
Rat, thank you for your insight on what you GUESS life at Netjets is like. Your comments prove you have no clue.
It's unfortunate you guys find my opinion offensive. Oh well, like king air said, to each their own.
Happy New Year.

I really, truly enjoy doing 135 stuff. If I am able to do that with many of the same support structure items that mainline airline guys have, that would be ultimate. All that being said, I understand why guys want to go to major airlines. There is much more money to be made, amongst many other reasons.
I'm hoping that I get on at NetJets, and captains start leaving there in droves for the majors

Guy asked a question.... 121LEGACY or Netjets.... We gave our opinion....
Since it appears F16 and myself have done both... Our opinion should hold some merit...
I enjoyed NJA before the BS they have now...But given a choice between NJA and 121 LEGACY... I would choose 121...I see the crap now and am glad I resigned... I come here because I am still interested in what goes on over there.
NJA is a good job... I aspired to make more than $80-90k though.. Especially being gone from home as much as I was with NJA ... So on that note.. No I do not think NJA SIC is a good spot to be in for the next 10 years....given what we know today about Legacy retirements, one would be in a better financial position at a Legacy...
Commuting aside... In one way or another both groups go through security, ride on RJ's, have short overnights and sometimes do 5 legs a day.. ( not me, but some pilots)... Difference in 121 is I don't have to load anything, clean anything, wipe down boogers off the window, or make multiple trips across the ramp in cold temperatures to get stock...and it makes me more $$$ not having to do all that..

King..
You keep skipping over the fact that not everyone wants to fly Part 121....it really is that simple. I know guys that are happy instructing at FSI and make way less money. I know guys that do 300+ days a year in Afghanistan and make less than a Delta Captain.
I am more professionally and personally satisfied with NJA style flying. Maybe that is hard to understand but at the end of the day...or career, I will hopefully look back on my career and say I had a good time and enjoyed what I did...not that I made a pile of cash and was bored. I did not have to move multiple times to maintain a good QOL. I was not chasing bases to chase the left seat or the next piece of iron. I have seen it countless times..and want NO part of it. I have friends that are commuting from the west coast to the east coast.
I would rather do 2 or 3 short legs a day than one 9 or 10 hour leg (DVT) to sit in the hotel for min rest and turn...and cross a bunch of times zones.
I did not enjoy hanging out in disease infested crew rooms or eating the crap food served by the catering companies or what you get in the terminal. Non-revving sucks...SUCKS! Now, I use my status and points to get a guaranteed seat on the airlines. I use my hotel points to get free rooms. I use my rental car points to get free rental cars. I park at the airport for free. I get a guaranteed seat on the airplane so YOU can take me to work. I have NEVER begged for a seat or been jammed up on a jump seat for hours. If I miss my flight for whatever reason, I could care less...not my problem...more than likely, the airlines screwed something up. I get 9+ weeks off a year...just for vacation.
I spend $400.00 a year on new uniforms..not wearing out old ratty ones. Those new uniforms are altered at company cost. I do NOT wear a stupid hat. I spend ZERO on medical insurance for my family. I do not hump a single jepp chart anymore.
I would rather sit on the front porch of some ****ty little FBO in East BUFU Montana bull****ting with some old timer pilot as he tells tall tales of his flying days long past. I chatted with and old guy once who turned out to be a P-47 pilot in WWII. Could have sat there for hours. Enjoyed a epic cookout at another!
At the airlines, I got really good at flying an ILS to 10,000 feet of pavement...really challenging. I have taken a jet into Andros Bahama's. Basically a crappy little road in the jungle.
IF (I wont)..and big IF ( I WILL NOT) I want to fly past 65, I can. Older airlines pilots united and screwed thousands of junior pilots when they saw the calendar marking the day they had to retire at 60. Why did they have to work a few extra years...the airlines SCREWED them out of pay and retirement. Yeah...sign me up!
Finally, the airlines suck at customer service...they SUCK! I want no part of that. People feel the same about cable companies and used car dealerships as they do about the airlines. Again, I want no part of that. You have to admit, you HATED flying on the airlines while at NJA..we all do. Why did you hate it?
Tell you what, when our careers are over, and we are both on the day of our death, we should chat about who enjoyed their profession more.
