Default Non Airline Crew Bases

Hello Everyone,

I am a current corporate pilot extremely excited to begin the application process with NetJets. I was looking through the crew base list on the NetJets website and noticed some crew bases with no airline service such as Van Nuys and Teterboro.

Would you begin your rotation with a NetJets tail on your first day and not airline into position on day one at these bases?

Does living in a base like VNY or TEB increase FDP pay since you are theoretically flying on Day 1 and 7 and not airlining?

I greatly appreciate all the answers and the wealth of information on this forum.

Thank you

Vny and Teb bases tend to not airline as much from everyone that I have talked to that lives there. Doesn’t mean you won’t airline though, they may just give you ground (cls, lyft, rental car) to go get on an airline if there isn’t a tail available. As far as for more fdp, you have a better chance but don’t budget for it.

Deserthusker covered most of it. I'd just add that I think you have just as good of chance to start/end a tour walking straight onto a NJA tail at any of our higher frequency bases that also have airline service (DAL, PBI, MDW, etc.). In terms of being able to fly on day 1 or 7 - If you are at an airport with airline service you are not "losing" the time it takes to get to wherever your airline departs out of.

The other factor is, as with many things Netjets, what is your fleet assignment. If you end up on a smaller sized fleet, pure numbers wise you are less likely to start in base. If you get on a larger sized fleet, the numbers start to go in your favor that there happens to be a plane at your base that needs a crew.

I've been TEB based before and you will pretty much pick up a plane there and drop it off day one and day 7 or 8.

When I was EWR based I was still just getting in a limo to go to TEB or HPN. I rarely airlined at all being based out of there.

My highest grossing tours would be when I was based out of there because you always flew on day one and day 7 or 8. There is always a reason to get a plane back to TEB.

Also being TEB based I literally covered every airport. PHL, TTN, BLM, EWR, JFK, LGA, HPN, BDL, GON, FRG, FOK were all pretty much my bases too.

Was/is there a general rule when it comes to travel time by vehicle to get to an aircraft. For Example the plane is in San Luis Obispo and you’re VNY based. Thanks.

The company can have you take a rental car for up to 150 miles and they can put you with a chauffered vehicle for pretty much an entire duty day if they so choose. They can also have you arrange your own taxi or Uber, but I don't remember how long that can be.

They can have you take a rental up to 150 but if you're not comfortable with the route or area they will get you a CLS limo.

Lots of guys don't feel comfortable driving from TEB to FOK. Me I don't care since I've grown up in the area but it's usually my choice.

Plus I like having a rental car out on the island to find food.
