Upgrade Times
I couldn't find this anywhere in a search, what are the upgrade times at NetJets? I have an interview coming up and I don't know anybody who works there so this kind of inside knowledge I have no angle for. How does the right to left seat upgrade process generally work?

Realistically right now somewhere from 6-8 years. Technically the most jr captain is a 2008 hire right now, but there’s only 60 or so guys from 2008 left to upgrade before there’s a large gap and the next guy on the seniority list will be from 2015. It could definitely be less then 6-8 with the amount of planes the company wants to take on as well, but that’s a conservative estimate.

Currently, there are ~325-350 pilots between the most junior PIC and an early 2021 hire (very little hiring during covid). To analyze it, 2008 and 2015 hires are on the same page of the seniority list. Only 4 people on the list from 2017, ~50 from 2019, and ~10 from 2020….

The most recent bid award has closed. More than 50 upgrades were awarded. The most junior PIC is an Aug 2008 hire, so upgrade in 14 years. However, there are only 5 more FO's from 2008 & 2009 that have not yet had a chance to upgrade. When that occurs, the list jumps to 2015. That's the factual part.
Now for the hopeful part. All the more "junior" fleets are approaching a 60/40 ratio of PICs to SICs. NetJets has announced a target for new-hires of 692 for 2023. To keep that ratio would require upgrading an additional 400+ to Captain. That could bring the upgrade down into the 3-ish year timeframe. But don't be fooled...that is a big IF. Never, ever plan on something that fortuitous. Just know that upgrade times will no longer be counted in decades...

The time to hold Large Cabin is also down dramatically. The most junior pilot awarded the CL-650 this month has only been on property for 15 months, company waived 2 years of her seatlock on the Phenom, she was joined by a few others in her class as well.
