New Part 61 Military IPs

One thing that allot of military guys don't hear about is the shortage of CFIs out there right now. The FAA may be looking at this as a way to take very experienced pilots and give them the ticket to pass on their years of experience regardless of whether it's a 152 or a U2... I would much rather jump in with a 3,000 hr herc guy with no piston time then a 250 hr 20 yr old to get my training. The way the market is today, very few instructors are sticking around past a few hundred hours of instruction... The pool is getting shallow. Some airlines have reduced their mins to a basic commercial ticket.... yikes

What I want to do is get the check airman title. What a racket!! Just show up and BS for a bit, look over a few forms, watch a guy sweat the hell out of a few maneuvers and approaches, and take home $400!! Not a bad takehome for a couple hours of your day off from the real job. Sign me up!!

Yeah, well when we shut down that left engine and that prop spun to a stop, I thought to myself... man... this ain't RIGHT!
Though I have to say--that was, without a doubt, the easiest checkride I ever took! My check airman was a DC-10 captain from FedEx who was just starting MD-11 training and was also a Guard bum. We mostly talked about airline interview checks (which have stricter standards) moreso than the ATP check.

This is from another message board:
John Lynch is the POC.
I wrote to Mr. Lynch this mornining, his response below:
The comment period closed on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on May 8.
The rulemaking team is reviewing the comments and have begun drafting the
final rule. To date, we have not established a time schedule for issuing
the final rule, but the plans are for a November 2007 issuance timeframe
for the final rule. Normally, the rule becomes effective within 30 days
after the issuance date. The majority of the comments have been positive
for the military flight instructor proposal.
