GI Bill for BAH, etc possible?
Was considering using my GI Bill once I've separated for the additional income. However you need to be going to classes more than 1/2 time to get the additional financial benefit. I assume that would be near impossible while flying for the regionals?
That being the case, would it be worth my while to use the Bill (plus 14 days of leave and $2.5k) to get my ATP practical and 737NG Type...or just knock out the practical in the 'traditional' manner for ~$2.5k locally?
I know there is about 3000 ways to skin this cat..just looking for some perspective. Thanks
Edit: FWIW, ~3000TT mostly all SE TurboP. DOS Fall '18
I know getting a type isn't really a game changer, but if it may help at all especially with my SE background (and if it wouldn't hurt ) I'd be happy to do it. I don't like feeling as if I'm just sitting on my hands counting down the days.

Who knows what the hiring environment will be like in 2018, but chances are you'll need multi-time. Maybe the regionals will pay a bit more, or main lines will have picked up regional flying back in house... Unless you're taking classes somewhere you've got a crash pad and aren't getting called out on reserve, I don't know how you'd swing a course load with enough brick and mortar time to get you the GI Bill bennies.
The good news is you have 2.5 years to start saving like a champ if you haven't already. Start making friends with the multi- engine ISR contractors so they can take your resume to the top of their chief pilots hiring pile when the time comes (they're needing pilots now that they've become a viable path to the airlines... In fact one of the WAI hiring helpers for AA came from one).

You can take two online classes with Embry Riddle to get that BAH. Eagle Vision is their version of online VTC. Would nees to be available 5-945, two nights/week. A masters comes in handy if you medical out; still a criteria for a lot of defense-related jobs. Why not use TA and do it while Active Duty? I did it; painful but I was at your same base with similar Optempo and did it, but only one class at a time, using TA. Right....never mind...TA has ADSC attached...never mind.
ME time would look good; a 737 type would complement your SE mil time.
Unless the sky falls, you are guaranteed a Regional job for starters; just need to survive on that salary. Can your spouse work FR or PT? Good luck.

GI Bill for BAH, etc possible?
Thanks for all the info, folks. I guess there would be no way to get the GI Bill bennies while flying for the regionals, even with Embry Riddle? 5hrs on the same 2 nights each week would be impossible.
My wife has her BA in nursing and while I was originally considering the contractor ISR gigs..I am just ISRed out

I'm doing it right now. Two classes through ERAU is considered full time which is what you would need to qualify for BAH. Because it would be entirely online, you only get a percentage of the BAH which may be half I believe. You will also get a stipend for books. The two classes are self paced with assignments due at the end of each week. You would have time to do them at a regional while on an overnight or on reserve. I think the rough number I get is $758 or so per month tax free for BAH and another $1000 per year paid out quarterly tax free for books and supplies. The BAH is based on geography of the campus I believe but don't quote me on that. There are ways around it where if you attend a single class on a campus and then some online you can be considered a resident student and get the full BAH. It wasn't worth it for me to drive into a school at any set time.
I think I saw somewhere that the $758 is a flat rate for correspondence. Toonces, I didn't think we get BAH when a dependent uses it? Regardless...I gave it to her for getting her nurse practitioner but she decided recently that she doesn't want it.
I wasn't really planning on using my GI Bill myself so I need to look at how it all works. I know it is "36 months" of bennies. Soo what would a $15k course count as? And would I be able to use the remaining in the manner that you are USMC? To be straight up honest, I'd be doing it simply for the BAH..but what the heck, I earned it ;-)

I like ur style. It sounds like I'll go forward with the Type Rating and use what's left for BAH when I get out. I'm just curious how much credit this course will leave me with. Now I just need my commitment to be up!

For what its worth, I used the original GI bill to pay for 60% of my flight ratings. I don't recall how much I used but it had to have been 30+K or so. I then switched to the post 9/11 GI bill and while I cant remember the months remaining of benefits I want to say it was in the 30 month range. 30x758=22,740...ill take that.
