As far as I know, no one sent downrange because of this.....yet. However, there is a fairly good sized mob on the horizon, and while its outside the time period covered by the loss management memo, once names are sent to AFCENT, you're on the hook. Therefore, one could end up stuck much longer than Nov 1. I have faith that my Sq leadership will try their best to insulate people, but all it would take is for AFCENT to request more bodies. I have ZERO faith that anyone above the rank of LtC has the balls to say no to what have become ever-mounting requirements. You put things into perspective well Albie, but many of us have spent too much time burning up JP8 with little to nothing to show for it and no end in sight. Many of us were active duty in a prior life and have seen enough sand to last a lifetime. Add the disjointed policies that no one with any power seems to have any trouble supporting and I'm sorry but my give a **** factor has dropped to just about zero. The ironic thing is that I fully realize and regret the fact that my lack of buy-in may rub off on our younger and more impressionable members. Hence my attempt to remove myself from that dynamic. It's unfortunate that the people who will be charged with the very big job of un-f@(&ing our air force are surrounded by burnt out, bitter field grade officers.

The effect on recruiting and retention would indeed by apocalyptic.
And yes Rick...it would be pure chicken-****.
I may post a longer piece later with frustration about how the Air Force has to relearn things. Not every decade...but sometimes even just 3-4 years later. (Sigh).

We are getting abused in the tanker world and it's not getting any better (both operations and maintenance). Just wait until they start shutting down the -135 units that got selected for the KC-46. Just wait until they realize they're only retaining 30% of bonus eligible tanker pilots. Just wait until they get rid of the -10's. We are flying record setting sortie counts/flight hours out of a certain base. More sorties/hours than the good old OIF/OEF days and yet, we see NOTHING about what we are doing on the news. The average American hasn't got a clue what we're doing over there. Now I didn't join the military to make headline news or get a pat on the back, but *** are we really doing? What we're doing is burning our people and equipment out.
Our options for CENTCOM rotations are to take invol mob for 60 days and get protected by a 1 to 5 dwell after coming off orders or roll the dice with a 30 day MPA tour and get mob'd 5 or 6 months after you get back when the unit is about to short-fall (this has been happening).
It is hard to keep a good attitude. We've got some FNG's running around the Sq fresh out of school and I try not to be the crusty old FG'er who *****es about things I'll never be able change.

I think it's because anyone who expects to be promoted cannot have an OER which says: "Upon reporting here, this officer found that the unit he inherited was operating in a highly satisfactory manner, and he had the good sense to leave it alone."
