Default Reserve to Active Duty

Does anyone know how to go from Navy Reserve to Active Duty?

Thanks,

Depends on your goal...

AD for a year or three: Volunteer for an ADSW or MOB opportunity. Get on the email distro and you'll see multiple opportunities each day.

Permanent AD w/ full retirement:

Active Duty Recall: They run annual boards. Typically they are looking for reserve O-3's (maybe junior O-4) with previous AD warfare qualification and less then three years break in service. Probably more flexible for 1135's. Keep an eye on NAVADMIN traffic for details.

FTS Recall: Appointment to reserve FTS, which would entail returning to full-time AD. Career path is different from regular AD as you alternate between community operational billets and reserve support jobs (NOSC staff/XO/CO, etc). Allows for career progression without command-at sea. They also run annual boards for this...they take some regular AD folks as well as some reservists. The latter seem to be better at it since they have the reserve perspective. The AD folks who transferred to FTS typically just wanted to get out of sea duty, and view reservists and reserve issues merely as impediments to their liberty.
