I know a few of these guys. Usually I think it's pilot first then med school. Some continue to do both, some drop the flying. I was pretty interested in this myself, but with Obamacare, I don't think med school is worth the effort anymore. Have you discussed that with your son?
There is also a possibility of a pilot going to law school, though to apply to that program one has to be beyond their pilot training active duty service commitment (ADSC).

PRS, yes we have talked about it. The thing is, is that the "doctor shortage" (aka Pilot Shortage) is rumored to happen in 5-10 years. Our currently family doctor has advised us that med schools are seeing lower enrollment, youth these days have less numbers of "I want to help folks" mentality, more and more doctors are retiring, and Obamacare is yes, scaring people. However the "pay cut" for doctors is not known, but what is going to happen ? A 400K heart surgeon is now making 300K? I mean at the end of the day, health care seems to offer stable, good salaries, and employment. Will Obamacare affect the cash-payer of LASIK ? etc
Still an ongoing discussion and exploration with my son.
