Mismanaged and overwrought with careerism is a perfect description of todays Air Force.
That describes the whole behemoth fed government. Nobody held accountable for anything. Just punch clock surf the net and write some regulations.

If about 2 years - because that's about how long it takes to rotate a new leader into AFPC - look for the Air Force to contact you and ask if you'd come back for a few years due to their poor management of the pilot force. Those left behind over the next few years will only be those without enough hours to have a solid resume. Hourly AMC hours patches will continue to fall from 5000 -> 4000 -> 3000 -> 2000. And to ensure one's upward mobility anyone with the minimum number of hours, a passing flight physical/Fitness test score will attend AC and IP school. Good luck to those who remain behind. It will all be a numbers game instead of an earned responsibility.
I don't think I'd ever get the call back. Missed Maj twice (most likely due to not completing my Masters, or so I'm told) and was given a year's pay to leave. Fast forward a year and instead of ponying up the money, they offered individuals to keep their job at Capt. So basically you could leave if you want, but you won't get any money. The future may see people making rank so that they don't even have the option to leave until their commitment is complete. That leaves a lot of people who should be considered unqualified in positions of rank...yikes.

Active Duty USAF is about to start its first round of "Force Shaping" this week offering early retirement and voluntary separation for specific year groups and career fields. Not being political here, but the way the AF has handled it so far makes the Obamacare roll out look like a resounding success in comparison! Too much careerism among Commanders and wannabe Commanders along with political correctness demanding that the Personnel Officer be of equal importance to Pilots has led most guys wearing Wings counting down the days until they can get off Active Duty. It sucks because the people you fly with on a daily basis are amazing aviation professionals hacking the mission at all costs.
