Medical records are not private if you are a military pilot. The FAA can and will look at your records. That is why we are now all electronic. You must, by law and penalty of forfeiture, disclose any military disability. It says so right on the form.

They can, but I don't know if they do (yet). I've never heard of that happening to military folks (yet).

Yes. If you're separating, be careful what disability claims you dream up during your exit exam. There are a few conditions which might make it hard to get a 1C medical. You'd have the decide whether that's worth $260/month.

I do mostly managed funds, but I've had luck with combining the two philosophies for individual picks.

Stability: I rule out anything which does not look like it has long-term stability.
Timing: If I have reason to believe a company has something good going in the near/mid term I might buy that individual stock. But only if it passes the stability test first.

So I don't do risky stocks just because because my brother-in-law said it's gonna be hot. But I might focus on a solid, stable long-term performer if they had something good going that I could evaluate based on my own professional knowledge. Sometimes it pans out, but if not it's still a solid stock.

Oh yeah, rule #3: No airline stocks, ever unless the company gives it away for free and then I unload it the next day

I've got a friend who is an IP at my unit who has diagnosed sleep apnea and has already gone through the USAF rigmarole to get his flying waiver. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but medical records are private. You either have or don't have your 1st class medical. Whatever waivers required to get it are not your employer's business.

But I digress, the point wasn't about disabilities real or imagined. This thread is about our elected officials breaking faith with the one group of people who have sacrificed more than anybody else while receiving less press coverage than if Kim Kardashian wore a mismatched outfit to an awards show.

Once this is law, it will NEVER go back. It will quietly be forgotten until congress wants to spent more money on entitlement programs for people who have done nothing to earn them. They will look back and see how easily they got away with this travesty and go for more. First will be the retroactive reinstatement, then COLA all together, and finally they will just say fuggit, no more retirement thanks for playing.
I think he was referring to the recent announcement that fatties (BMI>40) will be required to be tested for sleep apnea during First Class medicals...

OK, I have a different opinion on that, but ok.

Just make a big stink like everyone else does...saw something about Sen Murray backing off and pointing fingers at Ryan. Pretty sad predicament when the retirees are targeted after serving their time and defending freedom. I say this as I am personally headed to Afghanistan for another 6 months; not complaining, I love the USAF and am proud to serve. It's just sad to see politicians taking advantage of motivated and dedicated people.

DOD and politicians that support this, or are trying to avoid hard questions, have clearly got the talking points... "it only affects working age military retirees". Emphasis on "working age". Even McCain was spouting this out on the senate floor earlier this week.

Makes my blood boil. McCain retired as an O6 at 45 years old. I'd like him to cut a check for $150K payable to the US Treasury for the 17 years of COLA he collected while he was of working age.

It affects all military retirees under 62... drop the "working age" spin.

Was talking to my AME about military disability. He stated that if you check the box on the Class I form, the FAA will eventually cross check your claim with your military medical records. If you don't disclose, they will eventually catch up with you and it's your ass. Remember, you're not breaking regs with these Feds....you're breaking laws for nondisclosure. Tread wary on sleep apnea for disability claims.

We're (mil AD and retirees) about the only group without a union. Our votes are few compared to the general population. It's all about their constituency and re-election IMO. They can change it without anyone being able to do much about it.

I wrote my Senators and Representative. Have you?

Phone calls will be made next week. Let's melt their phones!
