But that's just a small symptom of a bigger problem within the AF. Most AFSC are feeling that pinch to some extent or another and comparing whose QOL is worst is a bit of willy waving, really. The buffoonery of AEF buckets changing to Deployment Bands to whatever it is today is nothing but the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dike. I really believe that when things change on the outside, even a little, the AF is going to be in a world of hurt...retention has been good because the alternative has been worse. That will not always be the case.
Yeah, I'll pass on 11S, those deployment schedules are EF'd up. We have a guy going through PIT right now coming out of S-28s and he's got some stories. 11F is getting continued through 24 as well but very few (if any) of those guys are staying, its all 20 and out. I've got a good friend who is a strike eagle back seater -- ie, no real job on the outside doing what he's doing now. Passed over major continued through 24, and even he is getting out. I could write a doctorate's thesis on what is wrong with the military and why I and others are leaving but for the sake of brevity I'll sum up that 40 page document by saying people are unhappy and are looking for any excuse to leave. For me the decision was agonizingly difficult since I happen to love what I'm doing and where I'm doing it, but when all the factors were weighed together getting out was the clear choice. The current bonus (had I been eligible) wouldn't have made a difference since (under current circumstances) I'd never have taken the commitment that comes with it.
