Resume: Military to Civilian
I'm in the process of polishing up my resume for civilian use. I'm trying to use as much as possible from my military experience (staff jobs, awards and decs, etc...). I'm sure there are a lot of intervewers out there that don't know what alot of this stuff means or even care for that matter. I'm wondering how others have incorporated this kind of stuff into their resumes for civilian use (airline apps to be specific). I don't want to leave it out because some of it may be something that sets my resume apart from someone elses. Any suggestions?

Transition Assistance Office
Use your Transition Assistance (TA) office; someone there should have just what you need. With the amount of retirements and separations they should have a good idea of how to help you. The next best thing is to ask for copies of guys that you know that have been successful (recently) with the airline your looking at. I did both, I used the TA office once I had my "one page" resume prepared. They took an objective look at it, and made a few suggestions. This is really helped, and is something that may hard to do for someone in the same career field as yours. Best of luck!

Realize that you don't have to "dumb" it down too much. The people that are looking at it either came from the military or probobly work next to someone that did. I think the TA suggestion is great...and despite the amount of blood we pour into OPRs, take a look at those. They do a pretty good job of explaining to the lowest common denominator.
