Albie -

1300 hours as a CFI, and he'd 'tear right through' the B Course?

Riiiiiiight.

Now that I've had a day, I guess I should have done a proper intro...I'm Saw and I currently fly F-15As (now a couple of Cs) in New Orleans. Not flying with an airline. Maybe someday.

As for Duck wanting to tear it up in the fighter world already knowing all the answers, I think the sarcasm from the fighter pilots in previous posts speaks for itself. Probably not the attitude to show up with at the hiring board.

Call the squadron and ask for any Major if you want more DL on the board.

You need to get an Eagle and avoid idiots like him. I'm sure us Eagle guys would love to help you. C'mon down to Tyndall and we'll get you trained up. Its a piece of cake program, and with the skills I know you'd bring to the fight you would tear right through the program.

Can't wait to see you here...

And we aren't on a BRAC list down here...(not that YOU need to worry about any stuff like that...)

I never called anyone anything. As in other post you've made regarding others you're putting words into my mouth. I respect all individuals on this board and I don't take kindly to you slandering me. You need to speak with a more civil toung. This board is a place for information. So someone who is new to the game seeking information doesn't need to have someone say "You should already know all this". You have to start somewhere. It's negative and uninformative information that doesn't help anyone. Why is it assumed I'm supposed to know about these things when I have yet to enter the military and my background is all civil based? I didn't say I didn't need the info. I said I didn't need the sarcasm or ridicule. I asked a question with a positive note and if it can't be responded to in the same fashion then kindly don't answer. I don't know where all of these statements about me thinking I know everything or would rip through any program come from. I didn't state any of those things and I certainly do not think it. Perhaps you should read my first post. Some people out there try and be supportive. However there seems to be a lack of those kind of people here. I wish you'd keep it civil.

There must be some confusion because I never stated nor implied any of this. If that's the way it came across then I apologize. However I was making it very clear that I was here asking information.

TD,

You were actually given some pretty good advice. The problem is you didnt heed it. Those of us who have been in many fighter squadrons wouldnt take too kindly to a newby who would be given SNACKO duties if you are lucky telling us we were clueless. Sometimes you have to listen and in order to listen you have to keep your mouth shut. Since you seem to "know it all" then why ask for help. If you are really interested, go to the unit on a drill weekend and ask for info directly from the guys in the unit. Find the squadron bar, wear a nice party suit, take your logbooks, tell them you are a CFI. Do you homework first. Best of luck.

ToiletDuck,
There is no reason for you to know what the BRAC is. It is Base Reduction and Closure. It became law in Sept-ish 05. Some units were/will be closed, some relocated, some broken up, some changed planes, and some will soon fly remote controlled expensive toys. Many a fighter pilot will become a Predator monitor and many a heavy pilot will become a Global Hawk monitor of a monitor. I wager also that many a Security Forces and Intel troop will also get to play Flight Sim USAF. Google it or go to af.mil and there should still be a link up with results for more info.
If you do get picked up for UPT, be humble and receptive to instruction. Especially from the FAIP that has a whopping 500 hrs, if even. Whatever you know, prove it in the airplane. You'll command more respect that way.
If mil is your chosen route, best of luck.

I am puking because I am laughing so hard. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...I miss being around you pukes all the time. Every time they try and talk me into switching MWS's I consider it for a breif minute. Have several bros's at NO, Otis,Langley and ND now. I can picture them saying exactly what you just said. You made my day. Thanks bro.

TD,

Consider the process for joining a guard unit the same as pledging a fraternity. Unlike the rest of the military, each unit controls their own hiring, and you could stay with that one organization for your whole career. As such, they are going to want to find out if you're a tool or not before they ever make a decision. Conversely, you would like to find out if they're a bunch of wife-beating alcoholics (unless you're into that) before you commit for the amount of time they want.

Ergo, call the unit, find out when a drill weekend is, go to the squadron bar and introduce yourself and talk to folks. When you call, find out what the squadron drink is (I know the 174th's is JD ) and bring a peace offering. Even if you are coming from Active Duty, one does this, and from the civilian world you'll probably want to go to 1 or 2 drills before your board if things work out. Go on a drill weekend as that's the only time everyone will be there. You will never get the call for a UPT slot unless you do this.

As with everything, putting the effort in shows that you want to be THERE.

Anyway I don't have much flight time. I only have around 1300hrs with 100hrs multi and the rest of the part 135IFR requirements. Both units have openings so I was wondering if any of you were part of them and could give me some insight. Would recomendations from any Lt. Col's here at the Laughlin AFB make a difference? That's about as high up the chain as I go. I met a few full birds but only met them while I actually work with the Lt's because of the program I'm doing with them. Very nice guy. Actually was a Northwest pilot who left and came back to the Airforce lol... So if anyone can offer me some tips or a way to get my paperwork pushed through that would be great. I've met all the requirements they have listed. However my degree was in Aviation Sciences from Baylor University. Some of them list that you need a 4yr degree with one in business or management preferred so I guess I'm screwed there. Thanks for any advice.

Dude sorry but inless your already a current member of the 159th ANG unit they wont look at you, I called them personally. And for the 147th their only taking current F-16 pilots. But I do agree about SLICE, he tried telling me that SYR was BRAC to get UAV, and then after I pm him he doesn't responded. Some guy.......anyway Im in the same boat as you so send me a PM or something.

I went straight to the reserves...Above is correct. Especially the part about the bar.

The word during a pledge weekend I did in SYR is that the UAV's are going to a separate squadron, but still part of the 174th Fighter Wing, hence, the F-16's were going to be there for the foreseeable future.

But that was last year...stuff changes fast.
