It is cumulative, but like I have said before most or all of the military duty which you will routinely perform will be exempt from the five year limit. Basically any military duty which you MUST perform is exempt, including all of your initial training, any initial active-duty obligation, all routine drills at your unit, all involuntary mobilizations, and any voluntary activations which are in support of contingency operations...which is almost everything nowdays.

Don't worry about the five-year limit...you would have to try really hard to exceed that.

An excellent question. I asked someone "in the know" and they didn't know. Advice was to not max out the 5 on one set (maybe 4?) and the reality was no one is counting the 5-6 days of mil leave a month you may drop.

Thanks to ronnie and rickair...together my question is answered, but like you said ronnie, it's really not answered...I was planning on returning at the 4yr point anyhow...rickair my situation must be unique as so far my units got plenty of days available and I could easily stay another 3 or 4 more than the 3 I'm on right now....but I do hear the funding crunch is coming...thx
