USAF voluntary officer recall (including retirees)
#611
I worked out my Start and RNLTD with the rated staff assignments guy.
Callsign "Rage"
Spencer A. Burkhalter, Major, USAF
HQ AFPC, Operations Staff Assignments Branch (DPAOS) DSN 665-4066 Comm
(210) 565-4066
[email protected]
Email is probably your best option. My dates were based on the AOC class that they prefer you attend before you report. It is 4 weeks at Hurlburt and if you attend in-route, AOC pays. If not, your unit pays. I don't know if there is a November class or not or if you have no reason not to attend, maybe the October class is an option. Attending in-route is the best option, IMHO, otherwise you are not there to help the family pack-out, etc... Get your post count up and PM me and I'll send you my email.

I know Spence is very busy with the summer cycle assignment matches this week. I'll try to get the AOC class dates today or tomorrow.
As to a clearance, my experience here (Ramstein on staff, not AOC) is that I had to fill out the form with all the background info. Then my security manager took it to the med group to have them check my medical records (which they had just created) and certify that I had no mental health issues. Then the form goes to the sky cops who do a brief criminal database check. Then it goes to the investigators. They create a case for me in thier system and give me a login, so that I can manually input into their system all the stuff I filled out the form with in step 1. But it's not until I have my login that I can apply for an interim. However, procedures my vary by unit and base.

AOC Clearance Issues
The clearance issues at the AOC are the same. We do have another retiree here who has been put charge of taking care of the returning folks and as the pool of we retirees grows here at Ramstein, we'll eventually work out most of the bugs. Keep plugging...the weather here in Germany is cold but it's still a beautiful country.

Here's a link to the Questionnaire for National Security Positions. If you can have that whole thing filled out to the best of your ability before you get here, you'll be ahead of the curve. Obviously, you won't know your "current" address, supervisor, or "someone who knows you at this address" for your new home.

I don't think there's any way to lead turn this any more than that. Like I said, the Med Gp has to sign off on it after reviewing your records, and the cops have to do their check. I haven't asked, but I'm betting that they'll all want "local base" sign-offs on all this after you've inprocessed. Snacks and I are working on addressing the process from this end.
As to the AOC dates, here's what I got from the AOC schoolhouse:
19 Oct - 13 Nov (obviously already in session)
4 Jan - 29 Jan
16 Feb - 12 Mar
13 Apr - 7 May
They run other courses for other customers in between these, too.

any advice???
Any advice from the below messages. I was looking to go into the Permanent Program vs the Temp. I am not an airline pilot (no offense to those who are). I was commissioned in '99, put on Capt in '03 and got out in '06. I didn't even do a PRF or anything for Major.
I'm not interested in getting the automatic boot in two years as I'm not furloughed and want a possible exit to be on my terms (within reason of course...I understand I would be prime from a RIF or something). I'm not exactly sure of why this is an issue but if anybody has any ideas, I would appreciate it!
See below for the email chain:
Ok,
I read that bullet as I would have to serve two years before being eligible for promotion as to "allow time to build and maintain a competitive promotion record":
[*]Applicant must be able to serve at least 2 years on active duty before meeting their first in-the-primary zone (IPZ) promotion selection board. This is to allow time to build and maintain a competitive promotion record.
Anyway to double check?
Thanks again,
Brian

my bad
I didn't see a reason to take her name out as she's just the messenger. I've seen phone numbers and emails of others who are involved from the AF side posted on this forum many times. Its her work email and not her personal email (unlike mine).
Maybe it was wrong so I'll edit it...(already done I guess)

Clearance Info
Your clearance needs will depend on your assigned job. Not every job here is TS but they are at least S. Start working on that SF86 so that you have all of the info about yourself for the past 10 years. Hopefully since working through me showing up here with no clearance, the folks here have learned a lot in the process. Everyone in the clearance channels are well aware of the folks coming to Ramstein and what they will require.
For everyone else coming to Ramstein, if you PM either myself or Kikuchiyo, we will be glad to help out wherewe can. For everyone else, we can answer general questions about the process, but I'm sure every base and every move will be slightly different.
Good luck to all.
