Looking at the hundreds of pics circulating the Web, a block or two to the left it's wide open and the plane goes down in nothing but shrub. Feel bad for the guy and RIP to those who perished.

Don't know anything about F-18s but I can't imagine they make very good gliders. Is "deadstick" even in the vocab?

The flight controls do not work without hyds, and the hyds are powered by the engines. If you lose both engines, you have no flight controls. No deadstick.

Default Heartbreaking...

Four people — a mother, her two young children and a grandmother — were killed in one house. One other home was destroyed, and three were damaged.

Fire Department spokesman Maurice Luque identified the child found Tuesday as 15-month-old Grace Yoon. The family's pastor, the Rev. Kevin Lee of the Korean United Methodist Church, identified the other victims as Young Mi Yoon, Grace's mother, who was in her mid-30s; her 2-month-old daughter, Rachel; and her mother, Suk Im Kim, who had recently arrived from South Korea to help care for her daughter's newborn.

Neighbors said the family of Korean immigrants moved into the area about three months ago. Resident Choko McConnell, 85, a widow who lives down the street, said she often saw the grandmother pushing a child in a stroller.

"I cried all night," McConnell said. "A family perished, a young family."
Michael Rose, 44, said he often spoke with the family and had seen the father bid his wife and infant goodbye just hours before the crash.

What a tragedy and I must say this guy is absolutely incredible, he's a hero in my eyes. Please watch this video.

Here he just lost his wife, his 15-months and 2-months old daughters, and his mother-in-law.

While trying to keep his composure during the interview he says of the pilot who ejected and whose plane hit their house:

"Please pray for him not to suffer from this accident," a distraught Dong Yun Yoon told reporters gathered near the site of Monday's crash of an F/A-18D jet in San Diego's University City community.

"He is one of our treasures for the country," Yoon said in accented English punctuated by long pauses while he tried to maintain his composure.

"I don't blame him. I don't have any hard feelings. I know he did everything he could"

Wow, what a great human being! I pray for him, his family and for the pilot who must be going through very rough time right now.

My heart goes out to that guy. I'd send him some money, but I know the government will take care of that. Anybody seen an address where we could send a card or something?

I talked to one of my wife's friends at a party last night...her house was one block away from the impact

I was thinking the same and yesterday I faxed Rep. Duncan Hunter (who represent that district) and his son Duncan D. Hunter asking for help with a mailing address for the Korean immigrant and also asking if there was a way to let the F18 pilot he too was in our prayers... I couldn't email because the website says only constituents of his district can email (I don't even live in CA), other must write a letter or send a fax...

I got the "fax received message" but that's it for now...

If I get any replies I'll post them here...

Sounfds like he's just a store clerk and if so the government would take no more than 15-20% of that money... but, I don't think money is what he needs, instead he just needs to know people keep him in their thoughts and prayers, it'll be an incredibly lonely Christmas for him...
