Out of Aircrew Tents

Out of Aircrew Tents
So I show up to my sunny location and check into lodging and sure enough, every pilot in the Air Force beat us here and took up all the air crew tents. Tough luck you say? Not so. My copilot and I get a regular tent and Lodging says it'll be just us in there. I walk into the tent, and we could have a full court basketball game in there it's so big. My choice of about 40 bunks to sleep in and it is directly across from the caddy. Just a bit insane, but sometimes it is good to be last.

Just wait until 38 of your best new Army friends move in because "there's no other place for them." Then, maybe, last won't be so good.
But at least you still won't be sleeping in a ditch dug with your own issued shovel.

I'm guessing you're in the Army. In general, if you show up at an AFB and tell billeting you're in crew rest (integrity counts), they are required to give your crew a tent, all to yourselves. So long as they've got them.

Yep..we were in the Deid last week and got a nice tent on the end of the row. Unfortunately that meant all the trucks driving down the road at all hours of the night. Then the TCN's decided to start sandbagging operations next to us. To top it off..brits rolled in right next to us creating a rukus..must have just come back from the bars. Oh tent life..what fun It was free though ha.

That exact thing happened to a crew from my squadron at the died this past spring. Huge Tent. 88 bunks. Great! Then.....0200 50 army troops arrive for R & R. I think the cadillacs smelled better than that tent after they moved in.
They had a early am alert. Crew rest.....forget it!

The USAF DOES NOT have to honor crew integrity nor do they have to honor the JFTR (missed meals, per diem etc).
How you might ask?
Not exactly sure, but theatre commanders are given a lot of leeway when it comes to stuff like this. As a KC-10 guy, I've seen crew integrity broken several times -- even after we b*tched and complained. I've even seen crews "frowned upon" when they called "safety of flight" because they were unable to get sleep because their tent was 140 degrees after the air conditioners broke.
To respond to the OP's post ... as an USAF guy, I've had to build my own tent before. Typically your crew tents have the hookups ... DVD players, TVs, Play Stations, porn, booze, food ... etc. So you might not have such a great deal.

Without a doubt, Manas had the best chow hall in the system. Al Dhafra's was incredible until they changed vendors during the middle of the big push in Mar '03.
