Snowbird mishap
I heard from a friend that was at 'Fleet Week' in San Fran over the weekend that the Snowbirds had lost a jet before showing up for the performance in CA.

That's too bad. I remember watching the Snowbirds practice for an airshow over the bay at Pensacola as I was sitting in my one-man life raft waiting for my rescue during Water Survival. I remember thinking that it was an amazing formation. It seems like I remember it was a diamond formation of 9 or so. The jets looked like Tweets. Definitely impressive.

The Tutor jet does look like a Tweet.
Snowbirds, Aircraft
I think the 9 airplane formation landing is incredible.

Thanks for the thoughts.
Mav was a wonderful person, great pilot, excellent instructor and family man. He was my friend and I will miss him.
I think his final lesson was that if it could happen to him it can happen to anyone. Stay safe and remember that a mission which seems simple enough can still kill you very quickly!
I also worked with Chuck who leaves some very friendly shoes to fill on the Wing.
On another more happy note, if you do go to a show where the Snowbirds are flying, ask them if you can fly with them on a practise (must be military or press). Our regs here are much more open and if they have a seat open they could take you flying with a few hours notice. Anyone on a X-ctry this winter to Moose Jaw (CYMJ) could PM me and I could see where they are in training and if they could take a pax. March/April 09 probably good times to think about.
