If you look at the quote I posted from the letter, they are looking for pilots for actual ISR airframes to include UAVs.

To answer the other question, I made a clean separation--no reserves.

Chris99 -

I wouldn't leave your job at NJ for this.

I will have to check that out. I called AFPC and they shot me down fast.

Although I could come back closer to upgrade with the same seniority number. That doesn't seem like such a bad deal. Although I don't like the thought of deploying--especially for a year. That would be a deal-breaker.

Once they get their hooks in you (i.e. after you sign on the dotted line) all bets are off no matter what they promise or tell you beforehand. Today's Air Force is a deployable one...if you don't want to deploy, I'd think twice about going back. Good luck!

I'll only come back on AD for a hot-tub inspector NATO job in Norway - other than that I think we've all had enough fun in the sandbox

I know you would rather have the urinalysis inspector/spotter job.

There is probably something in this whole thing that I am not understanding; but you got out of the AD AF for whatever reason. Then you got one of the premiere jobs out there in the industry right now and something is actually calling you back? Is it the service to your country? You did that - gave it quite a few good years and did more for your country than most will ever. Is it the flying? Is it more exciting to fly the C-5 than you XLS or whatever your assigned aircraft was through NJA? Is it the money?

What about coming back closer to upgrade? Is it just time? You won't be flying any during that year or instance - are you going to be more ready to be a Captain other than just having another year at the company? Everyone on the site here says what great flying and what a great job NJA is. Do you really want to NOT fly (do the job) for a year - or even 6 months?

The military forum is full of people bad mouthing the services and the AF leadership and what a bunch of hacks they are and how they have to wear Blues on Mondays now, and UPT grads are going to UAVs and the whole military doesn't know its' front from the back, and you have made a clean break yet something - something - is calling you back?

Now Chris - I'm not judging here obviously but I'm very curious of the draw here. What is it? I'm hope to be in your shoes in a little over a year and I don't see myself coming back. Maybe I've just made up my mind that once I leave the service - I'm done.

Everyone knew this was going to happen. I just can't believe it took this long.

If this doesn't show you how poorly the USAF is managed, nothing will.

I'm probably not going to go back--mostly because NJ is such a great job and I'm having a lot of fun doing it. The other big reason is there are no deployments or secondary desk jobs that I have to do at NJ. I do miss the C-5 mission a little, but I would most likely be flying a UAV instead. It's not service to my country--like you said, I've already done that. If I went back, it would be for the money. Like most, I've been hit pretty hard with the economy in the shape it's in. Plus I got stuck with a house in CA when the market crashed that I'm losing money on each month. The extra dough would go a long way. But no amount of money is worth spending a year in the sandbox. So I most likely won't go back. But I will post the answers I get here for everyone else interested.
