Two questions !
1. Curious as to the medical standards, or medical you have to take to be a helo pilot, a friend at our company got a reserve slot with a class A medical not the air force standard A1, is this true? Just curious of my options since my eyes are kinda not the best for air force.
2. Why do military airplanes have flashing nav lights, I have seen them steady and also blinking, whats the significance!?

All USN/USMC aircraft have different lighing configurations so you can tell the differences between them at night on the boat. An example would be the legacy Hornet and the Super Hornet. The legacy Hornet has steady blinking strobe on the tails but the Super has strobes that blink three times in a row quickly and then a pause.

Civilians are asked to have an FAA Class 1 medical in their application package to the unit. At least that has been the case for every unit I ever applied to or seen advertising an interview date.
However if selected to go to UPT then an Air Force Flying Class One medical is required. That is handled by the AF and is a whole nother ball game from the FAA medical.

I know F-16s had strobes. I'm not sure about flashing nav lights.
Bottom line: Depending on the type of aircraft and service, you're going to see a variety of lighting configurations.

The F-16 has a flashing anti-collision light(strobe) on top of the tail. You can vary the sequence. The position(nav) lights can be on flash or steady. We use the flash/steady or anti-collision sequences to aid in-flight ID at night in multi-ship formations.

For the Navy helo world each lighting configuration means something. They could also be different on deck or in flight. Then NVG's hit and we just turned all the lights off!

The F-16 has the option to flash or not on the position lights. We normally set it to flash. The anti-collision strobe has several different flash pattern options, usually set based on formation position, ie #2 flashes twice then pauses, etc.
