It is a formal disenrollment from an Officer Candidate type (i.e. ROTC,OCS,OTS,OCC) program... usually it's in your file from you unit. I think medicals are slightly different...but I'm not 100% sure. Sometimes pilot boards will say specifically no DD785s.

If you stick with the Marines, there is no such thing “available billets” for a new enlistee. You go to whichever unit is closest to your house weather they want you or not. If there is more that one unit (which there seldom is) you may pick which one you go to by choosing its MOS.

A recruiter can take care of all this in the blink of an eye.

I still say go back to OCS.

It is a formal dis-enrollment, so long as you were a medical drop vice a DOR or a “got kicked out”, don’t worry about it.

So, just making sure I read you correctly...If you want in at a Marine Reseve Unit, you take whatever they have? They don't have specific jobs? Its not like that is make or break for me, I am just happy to get in one way or the other. Is it kind of a find out whatever jobs they have after basic?

For reservists, you should know exactly what MOS you will have when you enlist. Example: guy enlists active duty, gets "Aviation Maintence" occupational field. Could be anything from working on jet engines to building hydraulic lines to inspecting/repairing flight gear, but he won't find out until after boot camp. For reservists, you should know when you enlist which one of those specific jobs you will be doing since you will be filling a specific billet for whatever reserve unit you're going to.

If you have a reserve infantry company in your area you will probably end up infantry or some form of support for the company. If you have a reserve squadron close to you, you can probably get some kind of aviation maintenance MOS.

Best bet, talk to a recruiter, find out what's close to you and what they have available. Your choice, but if it were me I would give OCS another shot.

Go back to OCS once healed and in shape. Also, take your time on things like the confidence course and o-course.

Yeah, I definately hear what you guys are saying, i'm running a lot and making sure that i'm ready for whatever comes next. Were all of you respondants pilots or crew in the Marines or did some of you guys take another track? I've been looking a little at Army WOFT, but we'll see about that. Also another piece, I went in as an NFO candidate (eyes correctible to 20/20, but no $$ to do it), and I think about it you know, backseating a Hornet.

I had 10+ years enlisted when I got commissioned. Now a Prowler ECMO.

According to the latest aviation plan I've seen, ECMO vs WSO production is supposed to be pretty much split 50/50 for the next few years. Translated that means you have roughly the same chance as going Prowlers as Hornets if you are an NFO.
