Default Transition from ANG to AFRC?

I haven't done much personal research yet but I am exploring the option of transitioning from an ANG unit to an AFRC unit where my fiance lives. Any gouge as far as the process and pros/cons between the ANG and AFRC. Is it hard to do? Are the UTAs and AFTPs the same etc? Any info greatly appreciated.

Looked at doing the ANG to AFRES transition back in 2000. At the unit level, I still had to clear the standard wickets (interview, pledge, buy a few beers, show my face in the bar, etc). Seems like there was this "Special Examination Unit" in GA (Dobbins?) that is sort of the clearinghouse for all AFRES applications. Mind you was I applying for an ART position, not a traditional so don't know if it would apply in that case. I filled out the paperwork and got a letter in the mail sometime later essentially saying I was blessed by them to be an AFRES pilot.

Also, as you probably know, the 2LT wingman can be a Technician in the ANG and be a GS-13, but AFRES is a little more particular about req'ts. Might only be a GS-11 as a wingman, GS-12 as FLight Lead, and then GS-13 when made an IP.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure AFTP's and UTA's are the same (48 of each for traditional).

OK, that's all I remember. For some standard family reasons, I ended up not pursuing that AFRES job and stayed ANG. Probably need to get some AFRES dudes to chime in.

My reserve $ 0.02. No difference between the AFRC and the ANG from a pay period perspective. You get the same 48 AFTP/ 48 UTA along with annual tour of 14/15 day (only difference between Guard and Reserve..a day of AT)

As to the real difference, the source of that money. All title 10 for the AFRC or mixed bag of title 10 and title 32 (non-federal) money. My biased opinion? Go Reserves. Much more money than the Guard, getting a man day doesn't take selling your oldest child like in the Guard. Also less likely to get BRAC'ed, statistically anyways. Have a guy in my unit get BRAC'ed twice in two years from two consecutive Guard units...seriously? Getting pushed through the training pipeline takes years in the Guard, takes days in the Reserves. No lie, in the AFRC we frequently beat the zoo kids to UPT, it's crazy. My Guard buddies from UPT had hire dates at their units that preceeded my hire date by more than a year if that tells ya something.

As to the full-time jobs, yeah the Guard has a higher prevalence of AGR jobs than the Reserves. Reserves hold more ART jobs than the Guard. Most people regard AGR as better due to the retirement benefit difference and the like, ARTs are nothing to scoff at though. Also, I question the prevalence TODAY of 2LT wingman ART/AGRs of any kind in today's enviroment, that's a few cats here and there, nothing I would advertise as normal or readily attainable. As to GS, it's now the NSPS system, although some job slots haven't been converted to NSPS. As to GS-11 vs. GS-11+ as a wingman/co-pilot, again these are RARE circumstances to the point where any differentiation between pay scales is putting the buggy before the horse, you are highly unlikely to be in that position today to begin with. I'll go ahead and put my foot in my mouth and argue you're more likely to get a full time job and do so quicker in the Reserves than the Guard (*puts foot in mouth*) lol. As always YMMV. Good luck!

You forgot the most important part! The guard usually gets the better TDY's...
