Can the new MGIB be used to get an AMT rating? My friend and I just did a whopping 1.5 months at Fort Benning OUST, and now he wants to get an AMT rating.

Does anyone know if you can you use the new GI Bill for type ratings?

I'll give it a 99.9% sure that you can. Used Ch1606 for my type, didn't see anything changing this in the new legislation.

Nice. How much of the 737 type does it typically pay for?

Way I understand it only the old GI Bill is good for types... cannot use the newer GI Bill... but that is just what I read in the paper.

If not, are there other assistance programs that would be available to me as one of his children?
Your 28 years old! At that age you're not a child by definition unless your living with him and your 100% disabled. At 28 you still have time to EARN your own.

Thanks for your thought. Don't assume...I have earned my benefits with over 26 years of active duty service. The past and future MGIB is a great deal.....but it's not a free ride.

Any idea if the new GI Bill will forgive some of your student loans? I know it's wishful thinking...

Default Informative Article on MGIB

Here's a good article on the new bill.
GI Bill: VA On How It Impacts You

As I feared, if you retire(d) or separated before Aug 2009 you can't transfer the benefits to your spouse or children. Guess they didn't think those who met all the other requirements and served in the war during the Bush administration were worth the added expense.
