Agreed -- if you are fed up with AD, you should get out. But make the decision early and don't look back. My situation gives me a pre-determined future for at least the next 6 years, so that was what tipped it for me. I can't say I'm thrilled with the AD every day, but there are hi's and low's like anything else.
Based on recent posts and based on my own experience, just be ready to wait...and wait...and wait for an airline interview. Make sure you are set up financially for a protracted job hunt (have some savings, health care set up, etc). If your wife is working, that should be a great safety net. Good luck with the search.

All good words. Like FredDriver said, don't think you're going to walk into an airline job of your choice when you leave. Lots of waiting for just ONE interview. I know most of the guys here know that. Most of my active duty fighter buds, on the other hand, don't. It's funny to hear them talk, sometimes. They don't have a clue what it's like to get a good flying job nowadays.

Right now the grass is drying out...and if fuel goes any higher, or a few more mergers materialize, it will turn brown.

Don't get me wrong, don't just shotgun out resumes and settle for the first phone call. I defined my priorities: good business model, good pay, home based, fun lifestyle and not taking 6 months to a year to get on.

Also, for guys to consider...just cuz you're hired doens't mean you get paid. What do I mean??? I've been "hired" by JB, NWA and Kalitta. Guess who's paying me right now...none of the above. I actually just pushed my sep date back to my actual date without taking any terminal leave. I'm not sure about the no one calling thing. The only one I didn't really get past go with was United...I'm a closet collie molester apparently (or at least must be since I couldn't pass the psych test). I'll be flying with the reserves as well and will be doing the airline gig (if I ever get a class date). As mentioned...timing is everything. Right now ATA and Aloha guys are looking for jobs so don't be surprised if your phone doesn't ring off the hook. However some good things are still happening out there. Kalitta is putting new planes on property, SWA appears to be draining the pool pretty quickly, Net Jets is hiring, etc. So although it may not be the best time, I don't believe it's the worst. And I don't have to worry about any extended "volunteer opportunites" or have to worry about kissing some jackass' butt who happens to wear a silver leaf on his shoulder and can determine my future...I'll be just a number.

DB,
I'm actually still in the reserves, so I will have the mil side covered. I'm really just tired of have ZERO control over what my future holds. All it takes is one J@CK@$$ for a squadron commander and your entire future could be flushed down the tubes. Guess we'll see...I'm just really tired of all the reindeer games.
Yeah, and what gives?? Thought you were at Delta...
