CFI/II & MEI credit for Mil IP school grads...

the new wording for the FAR is in part 61 if I remember right. I found it one day after talking to the FAA examiner I got my Mil comp ratings from.

scroll down to 61.73g for the exact wording, it also has a provision for taking away the currency for getting mil comp ratings if I am reading those parts correct as well, so if you arent single eng current, you can still get your single end land priv on top of the multi

I'm with you. Not my ideal job but if the bills need paying...then that would do.

Guys, like you said, any ratings you can get for free are worth it. Oh BTW you also can sign your buddies off flying in the military with them. Just gives you the ability to help some guys out. Take it from somebody who let all of those CFI ratings expire. Keep them. Just for the ease of helping guys out. It's too easy not to.

reCAL is right on...I am here at AIS in OKC and when we go on our field trip to the FAA, I'll see if I can't find someone over there to give me an answer since this is probably where the decision will come from! If you can check off one more box on your Delta/UPS app than the guy next to you, why the heck wouldn't you?

If you dont mind, also ask about the waiving of currency in military pilots. Currently you would have to have had a check ride in a multi/single eng plane within 12 months of taking the comp test to get the applicable rating, if I am reading the new rule right, they would do away with that currency requirement, which could allow a lot of multi ticket guys to have a single as well, added on.

I just want it so I can give my fiance and other friends a tailwheel endorsement.

It will be interesting to see what the Feds do this time. Years ago when I worked at Ft Rucker as an IP we could renew our CFI based on the training we did at the school. After the FAA reviewed their criteria they stopped renewing the CFI because we weren't training IAW Pt. 61, 91 etc. Most of the guys couldn't properly endorse a logbook if their careers depended on it. Two different worlds really.

Anyone have any recent news on this? I've looked everywhere and nothing. The only thing I've found is an article in AOPA that wholeheartedly supports the change, but nothing definitive.
Oh yeah, and nothing on the FAA's website either.

so far I have found it best to keep going to the EFAR's website and when you click on the number'd far you want, it will tell you when it was last updated, last I looked at 61.73 was updated Nov 26th with no new changes

I personally don't understand why they need to contemplate and ponder on the topic. Military flight training blows out civilian training out of the water! Granted, a checkride is due, because some of the mil stuff is different from civi, but not by much! As someone previously posted, I would much rather be stuck with a 300 hour kid fresh out of UPT versus a civi 'factory pilot' any day!
