Orders/RIP question
I'm a bit new to the PCS assignment process. At what point do you accept your future assignment, the day you get orders, or the day you get your RIP or notification? They have hinted at next year being a bastard for force shaping with having to cut 13k people or more, and it will likely cooincide with my next assignment because I am on the summer VML. There is a good chance I will get bumped to the fall VML though as that happens a lot here. So if one gets their notifcation, accepts the assignment, gets the orders, THEN they announce VSP(Fingers crossed) ...how does it go from there? They say if you have accepted an assignment you are not eligible for VSP, but do they mean during the period the program is available, or for that fiscal year? So again, at what point do you "accept" the assignment?
": I have just been notified I have been selected for a PCS assignment/365-day TDY. Am I still eligible for VSP?
A: Officers with an assignment selection date, or who have been officially notified of a permanent change of station (PCS), will make a VSP determination within 7 calendar days of notification and establish a separation date IAW 7-day option provisions establishing a DOS NLT 30 Jun 08. Regardless of whether the first day of the seventh month date falls after 30 Jun 08, officers must establish a DOS NLT 30 Jun 08 to qualify for VSP. Officers who accept an assignment are no longer eligible to apply for VSP."

As far as VSP goes I have no idea since I'm an 11F and they laughed at me when I asked the question. I would get the answer from your local MPF, but the rules on this stuff change so often that I would be careful how much stock I would put in the first answer I received.
