Default Mil to ATP, and Centerline Thrust

Hello Everyone,

I've been searching the forum for information regarding my military to civilian transition, specifically how to prepare for submitting my applications. There seems to be some good data on here, but most of it looks stale. I also hate Facebook and refuse to try and find information on there.

Is there a better place to ask for some best practices/company reviews for the transition?

I'm a 1500+ hour fighter guy with about a year to go before I'm ready to jump. I've done very little prep up to now other than getting some applications pre-loaded (airlineapps.com) a couple years ago when I was getting close to retirement the first time.

Thanks for your patience!

Lots of interview prep companies that can help you much better than what you will find on a website or forum. They will step you through how to translate your mil flying to an airline career. If you were only single seat, single engine (mostly Marine Harrier and F-35 guys) then you may have to pay for 50 hours of multi time to qualify for your ATP. Centerline thrust restriction went away years ago.

Thanks, I've been looking at Mil2ATP and some others.

I flew a fighter with two engines, and now I fly one with a single. Does the most current airplane count for the single engine to multi transition?

All previous flight time counts towards FAA requirements, no expiration date.

I flew single engine my entire career in the USAF except T-38’s in UPT. That’s all the time you need for your ATP.

As someone else said, pay for the interview prep. Well worth the money to help you get your stuff together, and help you succeed in the transition from “military mode” to competing in a real job market. I used Emerald Coast and have no regrets.

Also second take everything you read here with a grain of salt. APC is about 99% noise and nonsense with 1% of truth hidden within. I come here mostly for the comedic relief and gossip.

Good luck! It’s a great time to be a pilot, and remember the best airline is the one that hires you 😉

Delta will interview and offer you a CJO right now valid when you actually get out. Get your app in. Having one job offer in your hip pocket is a nice feeling. United is starting a similar program.

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd ask a question here.

I'm a fighter guy with ~1250 TT and R-ATP in hand. I'm interested in going to one of the Big 3 (US/AA/DL) ASAP. Has anyone had, or know of anyone, who has had luck getting hired with one of them below the 1500 hour requirement?

I know the obvious choices include getting hired with a regional/135/etc. That's my current plan. However, if I can avoid joining them just to jump ship almost immediately after, I would prefer doing that.

Thanks!

I don't think the bigs are doing R-ATPs yet. One or maybe two ULCC is the closest you'll get. Same I think for AS, HA, B6.

If you want to drop some coin, you could buy a C-152 or some experimental. You could fly 250 hours in a couple months, take a tour of the country.
